What's the point to this thread Otis ?

Is it a case of look at me look at me I said we wouldn't get a win away from home this season and I was right again.

You could ask what is the point in the team even turning up to play any games outside the ricoh.

Yes, if we had a 15 million squad we wouldnt be down here, but a good manager / back room gets the best out of what they have surely?

It is not just us who play kids, Derby play kids too as well as other teams. If they don't have mental toughness then it points again at coaching. Thorn was picking kids over the normal first teamers at the start of the season when he didn't have to?

The home form is what makes the away form indefensible. Saying that, the 'crap first 20 minutes' seems to be central to both. We should've been 3 or 4 down by that stage yesterday.

Is the manager totally at fault here and totally responsible ???

You would expect surely after 17 away games against a cross section of teams ie top 6/bottom six at least a few more goals and a tad more points

Other clubs pick up points, score goals - WTF is wrong with us ???

It's interesting looking at who the away goal scorers were - Juke (3) and Gardner, wood, Thomas, and clingan 1 a piece. Not 1 goal from any of our other attacking players/strikers.

To be fair I would say that the penalty was a pretty good oportunity to score yesterday, and we don't create chances at home either - Nimley had one in the first half, McSheffrey had one, and finally they oput a cross on Platt's head while he was facing the goal. (This is the Barnsley game)

gaz I think Otis is simply trying the emphasise the point each week as to why we don't win away from home until most on here (including you) actually start relaising what the facts are and accept they speak for themselves. there's no 'told you so' about it.

You can blame SISU all you want but that will not change the facts these same 11 players or so every week can string wins together at home and fail to deliver anything away from home in 10 successive tries?

That my friend regardless of SISU and squad is a coaching/management problem....no doubt about it!

I don't need to "start realising" what the facts are, I already know them.
The facts are we are shit and have had our better players sold or let go and no investment put back into the team.
It's not rocket science is it ?
If Any other team in our league had lost the players we have, and had such a shit budget like we have would struggle no matter what management/ coaching team they have.

This is what I just don't get.

People say we are shit, but we have won 5 out of 6 home games. When anyone suggests the opposition played poorly in those 5 victories people then jump down your throat and say we didn't give the team or manager enough credit or praise.

The sad thing is, that Coventry supporters travel miles at massive costs with, some with young children, to see Coventry play abysmal football. It's horrendous. The players don't seem like they give a toss about the fans who have paid massive amounts of money to go and see their "talented" selves play football. All they give is 30%, and just think, "oh yeah, I'm getting £1,500 from this game. Lets enjoy it, and play like we are winning 5-0, and not press when we are losing."
If we want to maintain the fanbase for future generations, we need to fix the results. Most kids around Coventry all support clubs like Liverpool or Man City or Man utd, and no longer support their local side, for the simple fact that we cannot win a game, and that our performances are shit.
Yeah, I understand that the home form is good, but you cannot survive on home form alone.
One word for this club's performances: "diabolical".

To fair Otis, and not wanting to repeat myself we have been extremely fortunate in a number of the recent wins, and this great home form is a bit of a red herring, it's not like we've been blowing teams away with superior football. Barnsley were the most negative side I've ever seen (1 shot on target from 25 yards), thr Leeds performance was the worst side I've seen at the ricoh in a few years and 2 stupid defensive challenges gave us the 2 pens to win the game. Bristol city were also poor and their fans boo'd off Maynard because he couldnt be arsed to try, and Boro played with 10 men for 70 mins and luckily for us tried to get a result which kept the game open. in fact the only team to try and have a go at us in the last couple of months was Ipswich and they beat us.

I would agree with you if we'd been playing superior football, making keepers make lots of saves, etc. but we have been equally poor at home, we've just had a lot of luck.

Well I agree we have been a bit lucky.

Any time that is suggested though some people jumps staright down your throat and accuse you of being totally anti-Thorn and not giving him any credit.

I think we should have been 2 goals down against Middlesborough and started off really poorly against Leeds, ipswich and Barnsley.

It's a football game and if you point to 'luck' or good fortune to support wins then you are being a bit silly. That will happen all the time and to all teams. Results at the end of the day on any consistent basis is what you make happen. That includes home or away. We do it at home but fail away.

We have to make things happen and stop rolling over so easily.

You will be surprised to hear that I think we play some decent football home or away at times but our failure to convert that into a winning formula is the problem. We seem to have mastered that at home now but continue to look toothless away. That has to be coaching.

As for losing our best players? That has been on here so often but at the risk of repeating one self.....are you sure? Turner was not playing for nearly a year, Gunna was hopeless and Westwood was not without flaws. hardly ranks as losing our best and creating all the problems now is it?

When I say luck, I am not talking about lucky decisions or balls bouncing off goalposts, I am talking about playing a team when they have an off day. All teams have off days. Think if you catch even the best team on an off day you can win the game.

Leeds and Middlesborough were poor. No two ways about it.

And I dare say, had Forest not met us when they did they may have still been on their terrible run to this day.

Anyone playing Bristol City right now must fancy their chances. They have lost 6 in a row. Sometimes luck manifests itself in playing a team at the right place and time. They were on a very good run when the new manager came in and that in turn would have proved unlucky for anyone meeting them at that time.

We caught both Boro and Leeds on off days and Barnsley had no intention of going for a win.

That's the type of luck i am speaking of.

Westwood? Are you having a laugh? If it's one thing we have learnt this season is how good Westwood really was. Murphy is an average championship keeper, Westwood was class and probably the beat player we've had in the last 10 years (wise aside). Westwood was a great shot stopper, great on crosses and probably earned us 10+ points a season by himself - his biggest flaw was his distribution. Murphy has easily cost us 6/7 points this season already.

Gunnar hadn't hit the form of his first season but was improving rapidly in the last 10 games of last season with the passing foootball. If Gunnar was still here would be the best midfielder in the squad, as would Turner be the best centre half in our squad.

I don't get your point - if they are better players than we have got left in the squad then by definition, their presence in the squad would have improved the squad.

I don't think I will be saying that - Baker is a league one player.

You can trawl back through the archives if you want, I said the same things before the season kicked off. IMO I would have Gunnar in the team ahead of any of the other midfielder we have in our squad. Thats my opinion, to say his shit though is the typical cov reaction to a player leaving.

And for the record I would say our apart from cranie and keogh out squad is gash. But if we sold a player and either didn't replace them or replacement then with an even poorer quality player then they would be missed.

Disagree somewhat, Stupot. Think that is rather harsh.

Christie looks a good player and will only get better. Thomas looks a good player too, as does Bigi. Nimely is a very good player and McShuff is good enough for the Championship. Deegan isn't a bad player, nor is Richard Wood. Chris Hussey is okay and we haven't seen enough of McDonald yet.

Not a strong squad and a distinctly average squad you could say, but 'gash?' OTT in my opinion.

You are right we have some very promising youngsters. Nimely and Norwood aren't ours so I didn't really mean them.

It all depends what league we are in next season.
