What's your local course?Don’t play as much these days since having our first child 18 months ago, and I have been wondering recently if I’ve been losing the bug - I had been utterly obsessed for the last 5 or so years.
I play off 4 these days. Got down to 1.8 before my daughter came along.

Nope, miles from it!
Well I suppose I could technically become a PGA Pro with that level of scoring, but when I think of 'pro' I think of guys who compete, and their handicaps (if they had one, pros don't have handicaps) would be like +6 or +7, which is just obscene - that's 7 or 8 shots better than me, the same difference between me and a 10 handicap.
Yes, just to put it in perspective, Andy Sullivan went round Nuneaton in 59 a few years back.
Don’t forget, you also need to have a full repertoire of golf jokes to hand. Could need them at any moment.Front 9 yeah?
We used to have a few of us that used to play (try) maybe once a month-used to get some great cheap rounds on Tee times-some for less than a tenner a round! Wonder if that website is still a thing?
Probably need to make a few phone calls and try and get the band back together
My lad (9) is massively into golf and it's making me want to play more. Never been great, aim is always to break 100.
Took him to Stoneleigh Par 3 last week, first time I'd picked up a club in well over a year. Thought I played ok, was hitting the ball fairly well, missed a few putts which could've brought my score down early on, went round in 37.... He went round in 39. It's annoying that he has more natural ability than me!
Have a look at Kondor Kidz. They run events for kids without handicaps or 36+.Took him to Stoneleigh again yesterday.... Early morning start after a long effort at Gala Day (on the back of him being poorly last week) and understandably both of us were a lot worse...
Got soaked too.
Then parred the last hole and ready to go again
Cheers for the heads up.Have a look at Kondor Kidz. They run events for kids without handicaps or 36+.
I miss Brandon Wood, great memories in 80s with passport to leisure a round was £2. Lovely setting.
I was playing fairly regularly at one point. I got my handicap down to about 14. Being consistent is my biggest downfall, I could quite easily par or better a few in a row then get a couple triple bogeys on the following ones. Few half decent courses round here that are still fairly affordable.
22nd round today. Finished 28 over par which is my best round yet and pulls the handicap down to 28.7. Dogshit yes but a marked improvement since I started in June.
Moreover it’s loads of time outdoors and provided I’m not held up by slow play it does wonders for the mind. The perfect escape from a houseful of arseholes hell bent on ruining my day (aka two teenagers).
The aim is to play a new course every week between now and the weather turning. 7 different courses so far. Today was Hollywood Golf Club. Played Ardencote last week. Looking at Windmill Village tomorrow or next weekend. And somewhere special for my 40th in September (possibly the Belfry, albeit only the peasant course). Golf Now is an absolute godsend.
22nd round since June?!! Nice
The Belfry is overrated tbh and seems to be pot luck what condition it's in (though right now is the best it gets as they've just held the British masters this week).
If you are willing to go a little further up the M6 then Beau Desert is possibly the best course in the midlands. Sutton Coldfield and Little Aston also.
Kenilworth is very nice too for something more local
Yeah, must be averaging three games a week. It’s largely alone so not an all day job. Thanks for the recommendations I’ll have a look 🫡
Sorry I should have clarified, I think the Belfry is overrated personally. But of course it's totally subjective and plenty love it
I haven't been getting around many local courses recently, any you particularly like?
Also if you fancy a hidden gem, slightly further afield depending on where you live then Welford on Avon is nice. Mostly just because it's the quietest golf course I've ever played, no one seems to know about it and if you play in the week there's hardly anyone there! Strange setup though, there's no clubhouse just a car park
I started playing this year too , played 8 full rounds now and been hitting the par 3 course at the Warwickshire too.22nd round today. Finished 28 over par which is my best round yet and pulls the handicap down to 28.7. Dogshit yes but a marked improvement since I started in June.

Achieved by aim of the year last round to break 100 with a 95!
just playing boring golf is definitely the way to break 100 when your about 100-110 level.
This guy initially appears to be abut videoreally made a massive difference to my scores!!
Played yesterday and fairways here in Kent are like concrete so a few drives went well over 300yrds!
Played Windmill in Allesley a few weeks back for first time in 20years and was in good condition and good for starters as quite short.
Great way to spend a summers afternoon.
Ang par 3 courses in and around Cov?
