I wish I shared your optimism about him staying because as CC4L say's, it would be lovely to see him score a hatrick in front of a full house at the Ricoh (I imagine that would please him no end to). However, I think another factor might persuade him and that is our current transfer policy and what might be coming in and going out because if I was him that is another thing that would sway me.
He may be saying all the right things. But, as I always say, loyalty is for fans. Players are individuals and are looking to further their own careers. The smart ones recognise their opportunities and take them, because they may not come along again. Leon Clarke clearly realised this which is why I wasn't critical of him when he left.
The only way I believe Wilson would have stayed another year is if we had won promotion. As it is, he is at a basket-case club playing in front of an empty stadium with no prospect of things getting better. On what basis would he turn down the opportunity of a better club paying a much bigger salary? The outdated idea of some sort of loyalty is misguided and naïve, especially as the club will be unable to reward any such loyalty. The only way I can see Wilson here next season is if he picks up another long term injury in the remaining games, I'm afraid.
