So many great memories. Used to love going to Cov on the train and walking up but also loved parking on Stoke Heath (think that's correct, sorry not a covtarian) and then walking across the park. Remember walking across it once and hearing a commotion behind and Andy Townsend was running across it late for his TV work getting loads of banter shouted at him. It was a Brighton game in the championship IIRC and by the time I got in and took my seat there was a very red faced, sweaty Andy Townsend on pitch in front of a camera.

Then there's all the memories from inside the ground. Beating Villa one Wednesday night springs to mind with a couple of goals from Robbie Keane IIRC, beating Man U one boxing day with Huckerby on fire, Dion Dublin's goal against Newcastle when Shay Given threw the ball in front of himself to kick it out but didn't check behind him first. And even some smaller events such as Cedric Rousells maiden game thinking we'd unearthed a gem, Chris Kirkland cementing himself as first choice.

Then there was just the atmosphere. When it was buzzing the place bounced.

Loved it and still miss it to this day.

Miss the ground and atmosphere but the spending of players is one of the reasons we are where we are (or have been the past few years anyway).

Loved the stadium and would have it back in a heartbeat as opposed to playing in the Wasps nest. Good stadium though.

Night games were my favourite. Get stoned all day in the Hills. Take the long way round and hit the pubs in Far Gosford Street. Last beers in the pub near the park. Just follow the floodlights. And no need to drown my sorrows as pre selected.

I know where you're coming from but every year away from HR makes it seem better than it was. People remember us winning in front of packed houses.

In reality it was a poor poor stadium (from the all seater stadium without a roof to the decision to build the final stand in the 1990s w cantilevers and obstructed views everything was done on the ridiculously cheap).

In fact our time at HR was characterised by Mostly shite managers, shite players, terrible crowds and an abysmal record there.

Got some fantastic memories of HR, particularly big night games with massive attendances, but we had some awful days too with lousy performances and 7,000 crowds. One of the problems with people's opinions of the Ricoh is that in the last 10 crap years we haven't had enough good experiences. But when it happens it's pretty damn good. Maybe a few more nights like Gillingham or the Checkatrade semi will change things a bit.

...if we're still there.

Watched a YouTube video of the last day the other week, it made me realise just how shit the move to Ricoh was. Massively miss HR and think that is never going to change.

If the Ricoh was owned by the club and we were successful I am sure it would be looked on more fondly, unfortunately it's an empty soulless bowl owned by an out of town bunch of rugger buggers.

I think that we look back and think hr was great because we had better times there but in truth it was a dump but it was our dump.

Bradford on bonfire night in about 02 03 with hardly anyone there was one of the worst games I've ever seen. Gillingham at the Ricoh was electric. You can get atmosphere in bowls but I still prefer a proper stadium in the heart of the community.

We were shite hanging on by the skin of our teeth most seasons , I remember many occasions when it was bleak. All that said it never felt as bleak as it is now , I am now genuinely disentrested in the club, but like a few here dab a passing interest, I blame the situation on greedy overated footballing people sapping the club who are now moved on enjoying the fruits of the greed.

It's funny reading this thread, it makes it even clearer how bitter some fans are towards the prospect of change in the right direction.

The Butts was literally Highfield Road Part II, and would have reignited the club in the heart of the city (if it ever would have happened), but you wouldn't think that reading through some of the other threads that were on here.

'Oh no, we would have to build a pelican crossing, so we should just stay renting the Ricoh. I do miss Highfield Road so much though...'

I actually think the Ricoh is better than Highfield Road, it is just that our form hasn't been suited to the environment.
