No doubt that 96/97 takes it, but 95/96 was pretty intense as well- we played Leeds and were drawing, with a very nasty atmosphere, everyone knew Leeds fans would be up for some trouble and the nuttier element of our fans were also up for it. Man City had to beat Liverpool and came from 2-0 down to equalise, so add the general confusion of what was going on at Maine Road into the mix and it was bloody nerve wracking and one of those days where you didn’t know what to focus on. I think we finished before Man City and then had to try and process fans on the pitch fighting and hearing that Man City had messed up, thought they were safe and were playing for time in the corner when they needed a goal- proper weird stuff, we had the usual celebrations when it was clear we were safe but muted as the fans were still trying to get at each other, then waded through brawling fans to get to the car after- all very weird, intense, nasty and we pushed it pretty close that year.

not a ‘great escape’ really but a very unpleasant day that thankfully ended up with us staying up.

This was one of the occasions I had to sit in the main stand... hated that stand. Completely devoid of any atmosphere. The match was a non-event also, complete garbage. And then that crap happened at the end! Just a weird, rubbish day. Even weirder when you saw Man City taking the ball into the corner on match of the day that night when their match was 2-2!

This was one of the occasions I had to sit in the main stand... hated that stand. Completely devoid of any atmosphere. The match was a non-event also, complete garbage. And then that crap happened at the end! Just a weird, rubbish day. Even weirder when you saw Man City taking the ball into the corner on match of the day that night when their match was 2-2!

I’ve got a good story about that day v Leeds, my late father always left before the final whistle so had my car key which was parked in Coronation Road got in the passenger seat waiting for me fiddling with the radio trying unsuccessfully to tune it in when four Leeds fans turned up one a bit battered and bruised, he was in their car a mark two ford escort, same colour as mine parked about 50 yards further down the road, my key fitted their car too. Luckily the old fella was born and bred in Skipton Yorkshire and still had his accent so they had a bit of a laugh about it.

So what do YOU rate as our most spectacular ever (don't necessarily limit it to the PL years)?

Gotta be when Steve McQueen and Richard Attenborough performed it in the 60s, amazing acting!

Beating Stoke, Luton and Everton was definitely the best of the lot for me. The first two games went to the wire so there was a really great party atmosphere in the sunshine for the Everton game which was a Sunday morning. City were exceptional and Everton less than motivated but what a day. I believe Norwich were on the beach when they found out they were relegated.

Quite a few others were incredible too. Surviving in 1968 with a dour 0-0 draw at the Dell. Leicester needing around 7 points from their last 5 games in 1969 after we had finished our games, with loads of City fans at Filbert Street supporting Spurs and Everton. The one where Robert Rosario hit both posts when easier to score against Perry Suckling. Not forgetting the 2-2 with Bristol City to send poor old Sunderland down.

Yeah always found it dull but sat there in the 90's as I figured it was the safest with 3-4 nippers in tow.
