Had a letter today from MBNA my credit card provider who have been taken over by one of the banks (can't remember which one).
Anyway I guess it's not really major and I already knew about it.
The thing is, today's letter has informed me they're doing away with the personalised facility to have the football clubs emblem taking pride of place in the centre of the card, always been very proud to flash it when in foreign climes etc.
Also the the club will no longer receive a small percentage (which I don't remember) from my transactions. Had it 11 years, oh well, Corporate wankers.
That's better.

Been having an ongoing row with the council over repairs and in retaliation I decided to do a dirty protest on my roof.

They were going to take legal action, but now they have let me off and have agreed to wipe the slate clean.

Mrs Scam has never had one either, so with Covstu and your good self that makes four of us on this thread without one.
Reading the latest Private Eye I noticed an advert for a British Airways/American Express credit card:
Credit Limit: £1200 Annual Fee: £195 APR: 76%................however if you spend more than £3000 in your first 3 months (with a credit limit of £1200......wtf?) you get 25,000 Avios (whatever they are?).

Used to have one (a CCFC one, too) but kept forgetting to pay it off, so figured it'd be cheaper for me if I got rid, to avoid the interest payments!

Self employed.
Use it for certain transactions, travel abroad and fuelling the Car.
Always have paid it off every month in full so doesn't cost me.
Helps separate some business from personal and until recently gave me more legal protection than a standard debit card.

Have one as an emergency backup if unexpected things happen. Emergency vet's bill, car trouble etc.

Like Wingy just pay it off and get rid.

They are dangerous though, every month or so they send a letter saying how the credit limit has gone up without asking.

I use my credit card for everything. Never use cash if I can avoid it which is almost always. I settle the bill every month (online). Never carry a balance. At the end of the year I get a statement of how much I spent summarized into categories, very useful and revealing.

Do you get any benefits? I was going to do that with a Clubcard one from Tesco but it wasn't worth the hassle

I only time I had one was at the same time I was trying to learn to walk on a tightrope.

I gave up on it though cos I had to keep checking my balance.

It is good to have a credit card. If you buy something between £100 and £30,000 and anything goes wrong the credit card provider is fully liable if you can't sort it out as long as you made a part payment on it. You now have more cover on a debit card than you used to. But credit cards are safer as the rules are fully understood.

Yeah, get that, but it is also offering you the opportunity to buy something you can probably ill afford to buy.

So many people max up on their credit cards and then just end up paying off the interest with a big debt hanging over their heads.

I wouldn't want one because the temptation would always be there to make a purchase on something, with the thought of I will worry about that later and if I DID have the money, I would just pay cash for the thing anyway.

You would put it on the credit card and then pay it off. No interest paid and full protection given. If you don't trust yourself you get a card with a small limit and refuse all limit raises.
