In what way was he woeful? He was our most dangerous player and went on to get the winner. It’s baffling the agenda you weirdos have against him

His overall play wasn’t the best, he had many misplaced passes, shots, challenges. If you look at the rating of his performance a lot of fans also thought he didn’t have the greatest game other than the goal.
As mentioned, for the price tag and linked clubs he was supposed to have been linked with and the fact that many on here got giddy that he played in a World Cup and he’s a USA international, I’d personally be expecting better than the performances he is giving but hey, this is a place of opinions so you may have seen things differently but that’s what I seen when watching him against Plymouth

Simms has all the attributes, just doesn’t seem like he knows what to do with them

Is Simms supposed to be quick? So far he doesn’t seem to be but we’ve not seen that much of him yet. Would like to see him now get a run over Godden

Gyokeres is / was levels above anybody we currently have here .. not sure why everybody keeps making the comparison ..

Vik had a mediocre 12 games and everybody talks like he took half a season to start playing , he was immense from the first kick the season after we purchased him and stayed immense for 2 years , different type of forward and the best we've had for 20 odd years
Different gravy

agree evo regardless of whether you rate the new signings it’s unfair to compare them to vik

In any way?

Both big, quick, strong forwards. Vik is better in every way obviously but profile wise they're quite similar.

They are nothing like each other

Gyok has a unique skillset that no striker was ever going to live up to and makes comparison worthless.

Wright operates in similar spaces to Gyok but prefers to run on to the ball and is nowhere near as comfortable dribbling or challenging the centre-backs.

With the positions he gets into Wright has the potential to outscore Gyok, but he'll never match his in-game impact or goal involvements (31 G/A last year). He seriously carried us for parts of last season.

The settling in comparison however is useful. Gyok is the main example but we've had lots of players who have started poorly/average and got better and better - which is why we should be cutting all the new signings some slack.

I think in general some people are just massive thick cunts who you wouldn’t have any affiliation with in normal life. But we are brought together through football and who we support. Don’t overthink it.
Best comment I’ve ever read on SBT. Congratulations old chap

Since we’re often quoting price as a factor if we’re saying Gyokeres is way better than Wright that’s probably why he went for nearly 3 times the fee. Gyokeres - great player. But he was no Pele. Hamer was the key for me.

I wouldn’t be so quick to write him off. No one telling the truth would have expected Gyokeres to have the kind of season he did last year. I’m sure if we got the thread where we’d signed him from BHA open, there would be a few people questioning how much we paid for him.

Like for Gyokeres, sometimes things just ‘click’ for a player and they don’t look back.

I don't think wright is particularly strong
He certainly doesn't use his strength effectively if he is, seems far too easily knocked off his stride and doesn't bully defenders. He does however have a knack of getting in very good positions and if he could finish more consistently would be approaching double figures already. I'm quite excited about the recent formation change and seeing if that brings the best out of him, though i thibk we'll need one or two different players in January to play this for the rest of the season.

I will say one of my favourite moments from Wright the other night was when he focussed so hard on being strong and stepping into the defender that he forgot about the ball and it just rolled past him.

More in central midfield is definitely required, perhaps a winger but nothing extra I think.

He had some good moments against Plymouth where he used his strength to beat defenders so I don’t think he’s particularly weak either.

The 3-4-1-2 made us look quite flaccid in attack. 4-3-3 suits our midfield quite well because it’s fluid and Eccles-Allen-Sheaf interchange quite well and they’re getting in those channels. Likewise, the fullbacks seem to be more attacking as they benefit from the cover they have - particularly MVE and Sakamoto.

More strength in depth in the wide areas and in midfield and I’m confident we’ll start to look like a side that promises to compete for playoffs.

Two wide player and two CMs for me. If Binks goes and Fadz isn’t reliable another CB too.
Why do you want to replace our two best players this season but not add to the no 10 position where we have had noone produce anything all season or the strikers where we have three players, one of whom has only scored in one of 18 games?

We don’t have a number 10 mostly. We play with two 8s, and have one and no challenge so I’d like two.

Squad:

Wilson/Collins/Moore
MvE/Lats
Thomas/Fadz
Kitching/CB (or Binks)
Sheaf/Kelly
Eccles/CM
CM/Allen
Wright/LW
Simms/Godden
Saka/RW

Ayari and probably O’Hare off. Plus maybe Moore and Binks. Palmer can slot in in various places if we need an out and out ten.

So you want to plough on with Simms up front rather than give him some time. It will destroy his confidence. We should give him some time. Also what happens if a couple of our three forwards get injured?

What? What on earth are you on about? Keeping him in the squad is ploughing on and not giving him time??

Surely injuries is why we want options for Saka and Wright?

It’s like you’re determined to have a go but haven’t actually read what I’ve written?

Could probably get away with one winger and use Palmer or Tavares there.
I know changing players' positions is crazy in the main (Dabo CDM!) but I often thought Palmer might do better centrally up front in a fluid formation. He's not lazy at all, but does tire easily and the game does sometimes pass him by. If he was covering less of the pitch in a more forward role, it might suit him better if he were to press in more fits and spurts and a more defined area of the pitch?

And the Blackpool game didn't really show much, but he *did* score playing up front...

He's played in all 18 matches and scored in one of them. He needs time and support but you're suggesting to keep the pressure on and start him ahead of Godden who has scored seven, and also that we don't need reinforcements. We didn't do this to Gyokeres when he arrived and we reaped the benefits in the long term. Also Simms has generally looked far better coming on as a sub than when starting when the pressure is much greater.

He's what, 6'4"? So he won't be weak, think its just a case of him using his strength and size more effectively but we'll have to wait and see if he can do that or not (same with his finishing). I agree about the strength in depth, a few more decent signings and we could be a very effective side at this level again.

Ive not said anything about who starts. Obviously that’s down to form and fitness. Just looking at the squad. The order I put players is just how they come to me as I write them.

Palmer can in theory play in 5/6 forward and midfield positions. I’d actually rather him in an 8 role than O’Hare and I do think we need a CM who can drive with the ball. But a deeper 9 or a 7/11 I could see him do OK too. Just can’t rely on him cos of fitness, so a bit like Fadz will probably end up just filling gaps here and there and coming on to change the game.
