Must admit , this signing concerns me more than Simms (he'll be coached and improved) . Wright came with a lot of hype surrounding him (not his fault) and a lot of money for a player I'd never heard of. From what we've seen so far , should we be a little worried?

Give the guy time, Gyokeres was behind Biamou and Tyler Walker when we first signed him.

Getting all of our players acclimatised to the Championship and our style of play will take time. We’ve lost our most creative player in Hamer and aren’t creating the chances for Godden, Wright or Simms.

In 3 games, Wright has a goal and an assist, it’s hardly a red flag at this moment.

Let’s be honest though. He doesn’t look anything like a €9m player.

Agree from what I have seen he concerns me more than simms. He clearly has some areas of his game that are decent but first touch and a few others seem lacking and some way off what you would expect for 8m. However, we need to allow the manager and coaching staff to develop him and I think it would be fairest to judge in the new year rather than a handful of games!

I think I’m more concerned about Simms tbh, he started okay yesterday but then just started wandering around, literally walking at times like he’s not bothered. Obviously I’m no football analyst but I think this two up top thing just doesn’t suit either of them, I think we need more midfielders and less strikers atm.

I thought second half early on as the game opened up he made a couple of great runs. Unfortunately at the moment we haven’t got a player who can ping a 40yd ball over the defence to the player. Honestly think a ‘Hamer’ should have found him in a tremendous attacking position

Against Leicester, he did and his finish against Boro was v good. He’s a full international with a good goal scoring record in a respectable league.

It’s 4 games in the season and the guy has just uprooted his life from Turkey and needs time to adapt to a new league, new team and new style of play.

A top end L1 striker could cost £5-10m in today’s market. Wright or Simms isn’t going to be better than Gyokeres this season, they will both develop and then who knows.

I don’t get this panic for signings to be 100% from day one. The best manager in the world (Pep) regularly signs marquee players and intentionally sits then on the bench until they fit in the system. With our churn of players, we do not have that luxury.

That all said, you’d already made your mind up before we signed him. Patience is king my friend.

It’s no coincidence that we looked most dangerous against Leicester when Wright came on and before Hamer was substituted.

Eccles and Sheaf are good, but on the current evidence, neither are ready to step up to Hamer’s level. I appreciate Sheaf is v good at what he does - one of the best in the league - but he’s not Hamer.

It’s difficult to get into games when coming on as sub for 30 odd minutes at a time, Wright has struck the cross bar, had an assist, scored and yes missed a chance yesterday.

I think Wrights an intelligent footballer and has some pace. We need to get balls over him and use it more

I was surprised he didn’t start yesterday
I think Wright would of started yesterday if it was any other team than Sunderland.

In the current climate 9 million euros is fuck all. Seems loads to us

He only got 20 minutes, but forced the keeper into a crucial save and looked to have O'nein on toast. He worked the defenders and pressurised the keeper constantly.

If that shot had of gone in he'd be a hero today.
But yea, if your auntie had bollocks ....

We paid 2 million for Hamer and Gyokores about 3 years ago. Not very long ago and not much had changed.

Maybe it's inflation tricking me, but I feel for that price you should look technically a level above those around you, or have some stand out feature. Though Piero hasn't I suppose and he just went for about the same. As long as they score then they can pick their arse in the centre circle for 89 mins as much as I care, just puts a lot on them when they aren't scoring.

100% agree this is by far the biggest gamble. Should it even be a gamble spending £7M in the championship for a striker.

I shudder to say this but he gives me expensive Bakayako vibes. Hope and pray I'm wrong as its early days and he comes with alot more pedigree. But £7M wow is alot of money for 1 player.

Theres alot of clumbsyness so far I've seen where he doesnt.

Hes similar physique to baka. That's where the comparison should stop....shouldnt it.?

This for me is the only gamble we taken this season.

Wright is an interesting signing as it's a big fee and very much a now signing.

Unless he bangs in 25-30 goals this season you can't really see there being much resale value on him as I don't see a premier league team taking a £20 million gamble on a 27/28 year old player who isn't proven above championship level
