I'd have to assume Doug had a transfer pot aside even before the Gyok money. If it was say £10 million and then he said have all the cash from sales too then you're going to end up with a good wad. The Gyok sale was just what the club needed really.

His goal record in the last two seasons is good. On average he has played 30 games, so across a 46 game season he would be knocking on the door of twenty goals in each one. The Turkish league is of a fairly reasonable standard, so you would expect that to be replicated in the championship. Throw in that he is a USA international as well, and you have a player there that could turn out to be very good.

For anyone concerned about his season in The Netherlands, It is true he didn't score in the Eredivise, but he was playing for VVV-Venlo, who barely survived relegation and now play in the second league anyway. I wouldn't read into that too much. He was also only 21 at the time.

Obviously the price is eye-watering for us, and that does frighten me a bit, but maybe it is a Simms type deal with it broken down. Either way, it is a statement of intent, and a message to Hamer to sign the fooking contract. Much rather this guy than Waghorn or Walker too, so I think we should get behind it.
