Transfer Rumour Haji Wright (7 Viewers)

I am not sure what you expect to be honest. He's scoring at a good rate, assisting and one of our best performers especiallyin recent weeks. He played a key role in all three goals yesterday and has been covering at left midfield reasonably effectively despite clearly being a striker.

I know I am in a very small minority but I feel he has been considerably better than Simms and I find it amazing when people keep saying Simms will score more by the end of the season.

You accept he has been our most dangerous striker. I would say he has been our only dangerous striker for quite a while, which is why we desperately need to strengthen this area in January.
He had a good game yesterday, but when people say he's been our best striker, that has to be put into the perspective that Godden"s legs have gone and Simms is funking garbage. Simms won't score more than Wright, even if Wright doesn't play again this season as Simms is a donkey (no offence to donkeys) i predict we will get more own goals than Simms scores this season.

It's great to see Wright improving as we are desperate for goals and we can't rely on midfielders, centre half's and own goals to get us into the playoffs.

I hope/expect another striker to arrive in Jan.

Simms has been disappointing as regards goals but against 3 out of the top 4 in the division he battled hard and worked their defences very hard

Teams in our division rarely pay that much for a striker unless they’ve recently come down from the PL with a wheelbarrow full of parachute payments - it’s not a lot of money for them in the same way it is for us.

Or they’ve just sold £35m of players. We were the third highest spenders this season.

but something appears to of clicked for him, maybe Ohare comming back, or the change of tactics, or maybe he's had a much needed rocket shoved up his hole, but whatever happened he's certainly looking a different player.

There's still a long way to go, but it's good to see his change of attitude. Fair play to him and credit where its due.

Now please take note Simms!!!

Agree and I don't think a rocket would see him enjoying himself a lot more. Well.... unless he has a penchant for anal. I've said it before and I'm more and more certain that it's the formation change. He's further out left so he doesn't have a lumbering CB jockeying up his arse and roughhousing him for 90 mins. Outside, he's got more room to control the ball and drive at defenders, which is where his apparent pace and skill work, 2nd goal vs Sunderland is a prime example. And as a result, he's obviously enjoying his increased participation and the overall games a lot more. He really is becoming more integral to our team as weeks go by.

While Wrighty is improving at the speed of a Ferrari, Simms is on the slow path and is more akin to a Renault 2CV. He will get there but can take the scenic route and sometimes falls over on corners :ROFLMAO:

In a weird place with him right now where on the one hand he’s clearly settling in, playing well and looking like our most dangerous striker. And on the other hand, I still think he’s got a long way to go to offer value for money at £8 million.

I think you are right. He is doing well, but that transfer fee is always going to work against him. The improvement is good to see, and I think he can hit some pretty decent numbers if he carries on like this. I can see the fans starting to turn in the right direction with him also, which is good.

I alluded to this in another post, but I think the Wright transfer fee is also giving shade to Simms. If we had only signed him for 3.5 million (rising) - which is a lot on its own, the output would be more concentrated on. I think we may be seeing more questions being asked.

But we DID sign Simms for 3.5. It's only the addons that push it to 8 and if we don't get promoted, we won't even have to pay some of that.

I am not into calling players garbage or donkeys but I can't deny I feel Simms has been really poor.

He must be better than performances suggest but I fail to see what he brings, and he looks far inferior to Wright. He doesn't seem fast, gets caught in possession and doesn't look dangerous. In the last four matches all of which he has started I can't remember him looking like scoring once. It was interesting that as soon as he went off yesterday and Wright went up front Wright played a role in another goal. Would Simms have done that?

I do feel it is a shame Simms has played in every game and started 14 of them. I don't think that has helped him but we haven't really had many options up front.

While we have other players banging em in I don't think he's an immediate issue, and when they don't well find out if he got them or not?

What's your point? Sorry, I don't understand.

Unless I read it wrong, your comment about if we'd only paid 3.5 seems to imply that if Simms fee had been that low, there'd be less attention to his performances ?? If I got it wrong, sorry. But I was just saying that Simms was bought for 3.5 and the rest in extras that may or may not be paid. So the attention to Simm's output is unfair.

Agreed, I see absolutely nothing in his game that makes me think he will become the player that we need. He is young though, so has time to turn things round, but imo, he doesn't deserve a place in the match day squad at this point in time.

I'm hopeful of another striker coming in next month.

Surely he has to be better than performances to date suggest though. Maybe it's a matter of confidence? He’s looked ok a few times coming off the bench and against Ledds to an extent although I didn't think he was anywhere near as good as some on here suggested.

Let's not forget how Gyokeres was when he first arrived.

And yes we desperately need another striker for the rest of the season. What happens if Wright gets injured?

I'm still a bit confused.

I was saying that the fee for Simms versus the output we are getting for him is so far quite disappointing. I think the fact we have Wright on a higher fee is taking the spotlight, meaning Simms is probably getting a bit of an easier ride than he would be otherwise.

Fair enough though I wouldn't agree personally. I wouldn't say he's got it that much easier as he's still being slammed on here and social media (and in the stands). And I don't think either transfer fee is a factor. Haji was as bad but he's becoming a fan favourite as he's now scoring goals. Everyone thinks Ellis was bought as a goalscorer. But he's never been prolific and I don't think he every will be a 20 goal a season player.

Think he's going to be that Marmite player, fans either love him or hate him. Time will be the answer.

You did read it wrong. He meant if we'd 'only' bought Simms and not Wright.

Pace, strength, intelligence, commitment. He can really strike a ball, and in previous teams has proved he can finish. He has youth on his side, and he will succeed.
I hope your right, but I'm not convinced at all.
He'll need to do more than just be able to kick a ball.

Totally agree, he was absolutely shite before the last international break. (Yes I said absolutely shite, don't bother trying to sugar coat it anyone) but something appears to of clicked for him, maybe Ohare comming back, or the change of tactics, or maybe he's had a much needed rocket shoved up his hole, but whatever happened he's certainly looking a different player.

There’s also a chance that you were wrong.

We were likely interested in Whittaker in the summer but doubt that we desperately wanted him as we’re a more attractive destination than Plymouth.

Form comes and goes and the job of the recruitment team is to decide who they think will have the higher upside.

Simms has been finding his groove lately and we’ve looked better with him upfront. Frustratingly, he hasn’t had a clear cut chance created for him. 3 of the last 4 games have been v difficult fixtures.

Overall, in the long term, I don’t think we’ll regret our recruitment choices and a lot of people will look silly with early comments made on the players we’ve signed.

Side note: I’m all prepped for Xmas morning now! Merry Christmas to all!

The only negative I can throw at Haji is that I do get concerned when teams attack us on our left. Wrighty isn't defensively minded and while Bidwell is a cracking LB, he can't do everything himself. Wright does come back to help but it's not his strength. But in those situations, I prefer Bidwell to JDC, 100 times out of 100. Once Wright gets subbed (for whatever reason), that can realise Bidwell and JDC can come on for his mixed defending/attacking prowess.

I also prefer Bidwell to Julien Dacosta.
