Hamer replacement (2 Viewers)

Why is this only the case for Hamer? No one is complaining we haven’t replaced Vik or O’Hare because we have.

Don't ask me? I am not the one moaning about it 😂

You’re the one saying Hamer is special and irreplaceable so asking for a replacement is stupid. I’m asking you why you think it’s only Hamer and not any of the others we’ve lost that people keep coming back to?

Rudoni is not a Hamer replacement, unfortunately we have no one that tracks back like Gus.
Anyway we are 2 games in and not even 1 red card.
Not for the want of trying by the refs! 2minutes in the Stoke game and Binks is booked, 5 minutes in the Brizzle game JDS booked. Don't care what anyone says the referees know how to influence games they are reffing.

I would be happy with that if they were consistent. The amount of times Stoke players left their foot in or went through one of our players without punishment was ridiculous. When the ref did book one of their players he pointed to three separate occasions where he had warned him

But that is why the dynamics of teams are always shifting because you can't get exact replacements and it's hard to even get similar at the right level and within a certain budget.

Also sides can't play the same 11 week in week out, so managers have to be far more open minded than fans.
If you're a really good counter attacking team and you lose a player integral to that, you don't go out and replace them with a player not suited to play counter attack and make the other 10 change to suit the new player.

You don't get an exact replacement on our budget, you get someone who isn't the finished article with similar attributes and potential who you can coach and improve.

Whatever the player profile was when we were scouting 4 years ago and the scouts identified Hamer from the Dutch league should be the type of player we look for now.

I think you get the best midfielder for your budget. I am not saying overload yourself with attacking midfielders, but you always buy in quality. Coach others maybe, or maybe it means you no longer have to be a counter attacking side. The bottom line is if you set up the same every week and have one way of playing you will be found out and get slaughtered.

The best midfielder on our budget 4 years ago was someone with the attributes and strengths identified in Hamer

The best midfielder on our budget now is still going to be someone with similar attributes and strengths.

The blueprint for what makes a good central midfielder in this league hasn't changed in the last 4 years.

That's great if they apply that equally to both teams! Why do our players only pick up early bookings? Is it us, or is it refs only book away players early?

Maybe we'll see what happens tonight.

....and finding them is easier said than done. 24 Championship sides are probably looking for that player. The Hamer that left us wasn't the one that joined. But fans want to replace the one that left.

The Hamer that joined was class from day one. What people want is a player who can start attacks from midfield. This isn’t rocket science. Jack Rudoni isn’t O’Hare but fills the hole he left, ditto Simms and Vik. Torp was supposed to be that player but so far hasn’t shown it so people still want a decent forward thinking CM in.

Well we’re not getting a defensive and an attacking midfielder in. I think you’ll find Rudoni is that man with Torp and Allen next in line. Defensive option is far more likely (and needed) for me.

Hadn't really thought about it this way but Y, if Torp had shown more since he joined we might be talking about needing decent cover at CM rather than replacing Hamer.

Hamer started off brightly and then drifted backwards to the point that some fans wanted him sold and described him as a liability. He was a walking red card for a period.

He recovered, found some form and when COH got injured he got pushed further forward and we saw the best of him.

It’s simply not correct to state that Hamer was class from day one.

Yes Hamer looked good from the beginning but he was a far better player by the time he left. I agree Torp was Hamers replacement and has only shown glimpses of quality so far. But still time yet? He needs to be judged at the end of this season. I was very disappointed in Dasilva last season as a defender, but it doesn't mean he won't be better this season. I think Rudoni is a better and more rounded midfield player than O'Hare. I think he can cover more roles in midfield than O'Hare could.
