To be fair Covstu, people want to go and see consistently good, positive performances. The last game I took my mother to was Crewe at home towards the back end of last season when we got thumped 0-3. I then said to my folks that I was going to Swindon, did they want come along (the new wife is yet to be persuaded!). They did and the performance was awful on Saturday. I know that's probably pot luck that my old dears last two games have been shockers and there's been some great football served up this term.

But how many times have we had a chance to keep some of those fans 'swaying' with their support with some cheap tickets/big attendances, only to choke and serve up sh*te? It won't stop me going when I'm able to make it but the average attendance you mention is as much to do with inconsistencies in performance as much as attitude.
There is a clear message in this WM... Just don't invite them then we will do okay!

This is one of those rare occasions when someone chooses the wrong word but it actually is more meaningful than the right word. We are more weary of complacency than wary of it.

Sorry for the three posts in a row; it just means this was a good thread.
Haha, whoops!

Christ we are just under a third of the way through the season, consistently in the top 6 and on a little mini run of 5 unbeaten, yes we have dropped a few silly points here and there but that happens. No team are running away at the top, in fact top team Gillingham have won a number of matches with last minute goals, that bit of luck you need. No team in the top 8 frighten me a bit. Lets come back after xmas and see where we are at.

I'm amazed that people continue to be surprised by the lack of belief the fans have in the club. We've been here so many times before. Nilsson had us top of the Championship in November, McCallister had us in and around the top 6 and then failed to win another game after Christmas, Coleman took us to a cup quarter final and underachieved in the league, Boothroyd took us to 5th spot and then won one game in 16. Since then relegation and very little else, with still no top 6 finish in 45 years and counting! It's still a massive 'if' that this season will break the mould. It's promising, but no more than that at the moment. Sorry to be cynical, but that's the way it is with a large swathe of the fans.

understand all of that but looking at form and predicting doom helps no one

warning of future issues is fine, making out like autos are impsosible is wrong

Completely agree and I along with many others are desperate for success. It's just the nagging doubts that continually pop into the brain!!

Our current league form isn't that bad. Last 5 games we've won 2, drawn 3, lost none. Average 1.8 points a game which is marginally better than we've averaged over the season so far at 1.785. If we keep going at this rate we should be on for 82 or 83 points. Nobody should be on a downer. Its a long game winning the league and if 3 draws on the bounce is the worst blip we have then happy days.

Reality has exceeded expectation.
We are 4th in the league, have a game in hand, add to that we have played 2 less home games than pretty much everyone else, the futures bright.
