Head Coach rather than Manager (4 Viewers)

Interesting that we’ll be calling our new manager a ‘Head Coach’.

Little to no involvement with transfers etc i expect. More just someone to front training and tactics

Happens alot outside of England

They do training and tactics

They will say what attributes or type of player they need in squad rather than names they need and recruitment team sort it
But if we take the one data point of Robins doing well here and ignore all that it doesn’t work as a model

Fantastic. At least that means the manager won’t have to make any of those pesky transfer decisions, because that’s served us really well so far.

Edit - I probably don’t know what I’m talking about tbf.

Signifance in this. I feel that MR was forced to act as a coach , rather than manager, and probably had less influence in the signing decisions over last summer / previous window and ultimately lead to this outcome. Sad day, but maybe this was always going to happen to our Manager MR who needed full control.

with our structure and most modern structure - a certain profile of coaches and players are brought in and the head coach who shares the profile is brought in to oversee it. It means you only change one person rather than the whole DNA if the head coach leaves.

the Head Coach is someone who needs to be tactically astute. The general gist of football manager is old school, leaving too much for a “manager” to do in modern times

So do we sack the recruitment team when players are guff from January onwards

He doesn’t take the job. Because who would? So you self select for mediocrity.

No. Just the head coach. Won’t sack the GK coach who has ruined five keepers or the performance director who ruined the level of performance.

Great , really where the money needs to go is in the recruitment team not the head coach 😂 it's all business bullshit .

It’s constant improvement, like any other job - if someone better comes along you bring them in.

You can reject change all you want, it’s a structure that is in place in the top levels of the sport. It makes sense to move in that direction

You can’t explain why though can you?

it's the system top clubs have used for a long time

Ahould be easy to write it here then.
If you have a manager who does everything you had to start again when they leave.

If you have a head coach and hire the right people in the other areas of the club then it shouldn’t matter as much when the head coach (see Liverpool literally right now).

Really not that difficult to figure that out but if you need it spelt out fair enough.

I can give you my thoughts?

football/sport in general has moved on from 11 blokes down the local factory playing down the field.

fitness is now better than it was 20 years ago and you need to fine tune that. The game is quicker, there’s tiny things that improve bc A lot
I 10x that we wouldn’t notice but elite po (hence those fancy bras they wear)

There are people trained to monitor this. Same with nutrition and psychology. In that respect there’s too much for a manager to monitor. Recruitment is now Europe wide, the manager can’t just pop down the local ground to watch players.

Now in league two - and to an extent in league one it’s doable to get a 11 players that are quick and strong and get through. The championship has jumped closer to the premier league in respect to what is needed to compete.

we got to the play off final 2 years ago - but it turns out we did this with the help of two players the league has seen, but generally it’ll be teams with the above that fill those spots

I’ve said before the business logic behind it aswell in terms of replacing 1 person rather than 25 people.

To be clear: I know the theory, but it’s the people you hire that matter not their job titles. Otherwise you bake in poor performance not high standards.

If the players are not good enough recruitment heads will roll

Time will tell if the current signings are bad but from what I've seen I think they ain't a waste of money and in right set up could hit form. Hopefully anyway
Then if the current signings are not in the right set up,the coaches are not doing their jobs.

Head coach is very much the norm nowadays.
Correction!!! Would say promoted to Manager.
