FA cup 4th round v Derby in 1974. The first Sunday game at HR (and possibly one of first Sunday games in England), due to the miner's strike and 3 day week. Early kick-off to save power, huge crowd of 41,000+ due to novelty of playing on Sunday, terrible game ending 0-0. I remember being crammed in the small extension at the top of the Kop. Happy days!

The Christmas period games of '92 (L'pool & Villa) will live long in the memory (I hope!) The Lg cup Qtr Final 1981 v Watford followed by the semi v WHU were incredible experiences - easily the first time I'd experienced a full house at HR. (whoops, incorrect - see below)
Never went to either the climactic finale v Bristol City '77 or the Xmas Norwich 5-4, '77 but went to a rearranged midweek fixture v Liverpool in May '77. Finished goalless but City gave a great account of themselves in the lead up to that Bristol game.
In amongst those listed tho is my first visit to HR - the final game of 1974/75. An unbelievably drab 0-2 defeat to M'boro. Stood on the kop with Dad, surveying the splendour of mid 1970's Highfield Road. And Tommy Hutchison.

joining a queue that already went 3/4 of the way around the ground (inside and out) on the Saturday night , one week before the cup final of '87, hoping to get a ticket when they went on sale the following Tuesday morning. Playing football on the pitch for a day or so before they decided to sell the tickets one day early on Monday morning. Great atmosphere.

Yes, they were. Altho one sticks in my mind more than the other - the Dublin hat-trick game. Never saw a single goal tho as one of HM constabulary's finest (he must have been a rookie, first match duty an all that) decided to arrest me early doors, for the heinous crime of verbally suggesting where some misplaced Chelsea supporters sitting amongst us in the M&B stand should really be sitting.
As I traipsed back down Gosford street from Little Park street after the game to catch up with my buddies at the Brewer & Baker, my inquiries as to the final score, directed at the Chelsea escort making their way up Gosford street, were not entirely met with the response I was expecting. (teeheehee!)

Haha! I lived in Lahndahn Tahn at the time and I think Chelsea won the cup one of those seasons...might have been after? Anyway, the day of the cup final I decided to wear my cov top while walking through the west end. At one point I Essentially had a whole pub of Chelsea fans singing and jeering at me. Loved it!

Best game I remember v Norwich 5-4 (Boxing Day). Odd memories include a snowball fight between City and Everton fans on the old Spion Kop, when (looking from the West End) the Everton fans were in a pen to the right of the Spion Kop. Really funny watching from the West End. Remember an ordinary looking lad (just chatting with his dad) laying out a 'hooligan' in the west end (Arsenal or Spurs) when they had been giving it large in the back of the terrace - then just returned and carried on chatting to his dad. Other funny one was a middle aged Geordie being refused entry by a copper to the West End as he had about 3 cans on him. he promptly downed them all and they then let him in! A bit later in the game he was stood near us and a couple of City youngsters threatened him. He just gave them a lecture on how they weren't threatening him properly and how to really threaten someone (was hilarious). They just wandered off bewildered.

Both wins against Everton with the Ernie Hunt donkey flick goal and the 4-1 win to stay up. The semi final against West Ham was cracker and Garry Thompson was immense that night.....finally the 2-1 win against Norwich to stay up after going behind only for Mick Ferguson [who was back on loan from Birmingham] & Dave Bennet with a speculative cross, which I think it was Woods in goal for Norwich tried to turn over his bar.....only managed to direct it into the net. That afternoon we were all on the pitch celebrating with Bobby Gould.

That sunny Sunday morning in May 85 when we beat Everton 4-1 to stay up! Thought the bus back home was gonna tip over with all the SBA jumping up and down on the top deck. Such a buzz around the whole city afterwards.

We were 3-2 down after being 2-0 up. In 52 years of watching the City I have never seen us come back from a three goal deficit. Brighton came back from three down to draw with us at Highfield Road and Forest from 4 down before losing 5-4 but in my time we have never done it.

There are many but 2 that stick out were night matches with late comeback wins. The 1st was against Man City and we were 2-1 down with about 10 minutes to go and a Ferguson hat-trick gave us a 4-2 win and the 2nd was against Derby and Wallace scored 2 late goal for a 4-2 win. I remember at the Derby game Tommy Docherty had been in court on the day and the trial collapsed when he admitted he had lied and the West End seemed to sing non stop "Docherty's a liar" for most of the game.

Now you mention Man City, who remembers the first game we played them after it kicked off at Maine Road? It was a night game and because of the trouble there was a tension in the air and Man City, as they always did, brought a shitload of fans!!
There was no trouble (that I saw) but the game was an absolute cracker that swung one way then the next and we ended up winning 4-3!!!
Nothing beat a good night game at HR!!

Coventry 4-3 Man City - 2001 was a cracker.
Coventry 2-0 (I think) Palace 2004 - Peter Reid’s first game... still laugh how “Eric Blacks sky blue army” morphed into “Peter Reid’s Sky Blue Army” mid song after we scored
7-0 Macclesfield in the FA Cup, think Huckerby got a hattrick. More a personal reasoning for the company I was with than the actual game.

First time i.d ever heard it and it definitely was them, footnote to that night, tickets for the next round on Saturday ( Man U) were due to go on sale the next day Wednesday at 5 30pm I headed up King Richard Street at 1o'clock hoping to be towards the front of the Queue , only to be told the end of it was in Britannia Street and was 6 deep around the ground luckily started selling about 3 o'clock back home for half 6.Happy Days
Did not go to Munich but do remember the home leg and believing we could overcome the 6-1 from the first leg.

May 1977 Cov 2 Bristol City 2 Both teams needed a win to be sure of staying up.We were 2-0 up and safe from relegation then Bristol scored two late goals and we were on the edge of relegation again - then with about 10 mins left on the clock Jimmy Hill instructed the scoreboard operator to announce that Sunderland had lost against Everton (I think) meaning that if our game ended in a draw both Cov and Bristol would stay up.
What followed was Bristol just passing the ball to each other in their own half without a single Cov player bothering them at all.
This lasted for the last 5 or 10 minutes of the game.
When the whistle went both sets of fans invaded the pitch and both sets of players were hugging each other in celebration that they both stayed up.
Meanwhile back in Sunderland they were going fooking mental!
Absolutely priceless night.

Hard to pick best memories from HR there are so many good ones, most of my favourites are from when i was young and in the first few years of going up, impressionable youngster i guess!
On the kop on a milk crate near the front just right of goal, Les Sealey getting shit for 40 minutes of one half off one woman, constantly, none stop, Sealey your this, Sealey your that, your shit, any insult you could think of she was throwing it at him, he eventually turned and looked at her and shouted "shut your fucking mouth you stupid fucking cow" That was it, she did and it was over, but for what ever reason it has always stuck with me as one of them special moments, funny memories.
Fergusons lob to beat what was probably the best team in Europe at the time 1-0, a couple of different reasons but this is probably my favourite HR memory of all time.
Thru the entrys behind the W End to climb over the wall to avoid paying
