After tonight’s score, looks like the three teams promoted from the Championship last season will be coming straight back down. Does this reflect an ever increasing gulf between the top two divisions which means it’s too big a gap to fill for newly-promoted teams to fill, even with the possible benefit of parachute payments?

Yes and not a lot will change as it suits the prem teams who hang around at the bottom but will never go down. Something needs to change as these will come down and challenge at the top end straight away.

Forest spent millions and took the hit on ffp, but it was worth it by all accounts. The Leicester fans I work with said they should have done the same, but they have always been cheating bastards.

Southampton were doomed from the start Russell Martin was never going to work for a lower level premier league team.
Leicester are in trouble with FFP and couldn't spend anything and will hopefully get a points deduction next year.
Ipswich had a lot of the same players from league 1 and it's probably a step too far for them. I imagine they'll do well next year though.
The teams that do well tend to get recruitment right first year and build out the squad to Mid-Table standards over 3 transfer windows.

Someone like ourselves have a chance of staying up. Not a massive chance but...
We have players on their way up like Rudoni. With our aerial threat we will score goals. Wright would score goals. Lampard has knowledge and contacts.
Our aim would be 17th. But if we didn't make it we would have to continue to strengthen slowly and go again. The money would help.
Faes is probably the worst player I have ever seen in the PL. Our players are not all multimillionaires like Leicester players. They dont even give a shit. Ruud is totally clueless and massively out of his depth.
A total clearout needed including Vardy over the summer. They need younger and hungrier players who give a shit. I would be seroisuly worried in I was a Leicester fan with that team even in the Championship.

I'm pretty sure every club think they have players that can do it, clubs that finished above us.Rudoni is doing well but it's not like he feels a class above right now.
We have players with bags of ability and potential but if the team was to do something magic. I'd hope Lampard would channel his inner Allardyce.

Ipswich were never going to stay up if we're all being honest. Went up too quickly with some L1 players still in and around their squad. Leicester are in a whole heap of mess atm so that was kind of inevitable!

There were worse players at the start of the prem people like Rennie and Julian Darby come to mind but in the last ten years or so he would be up there as the worst.

Ipswich have spent close to 150mil trying to stay up. They might do well next season but if they don't go straight back up they will be in a world of shit. Their wage bill will be a breach of FFP in Championship. Teams seem to get away with it for a year but after that are fecked.
Spot on tactics wise - these wanna be Guardiola managers care more about their own image by sticking to a philosophy than surviving. Kompany getting the Bayern job off the back of a rotten season last year won’t have helped this.
I actually think our more pragmatic approach under FL would mean that if we were to go up we have fighting chance to survive with the right investment as FL wouldn’t be opposed to parking the bus and playing counter attack football.

My thoughts exactly.
We have all these foreign managers that never played in the Prem. Most British managers didn't either. Then we have Lampard. Fantastic Prem player. A winner as a player. Very experienced at the level we're looking to join. We'd have a fast attacking side, most probably on the break most of the time.
It would be a bloodbath some games, but we would have the chance of putting enough points on the board to survive. All we would need to do is spend wisely. If we went back down we would have the players to be a top Championship side and yoyo between the divisions. Try and do a Leeds.

Ipswich went the buying the best of The Championship route. I think its ok to pick up 1 or 2 that way but its clear you need to be a bit smarter with your recruitment than that to have a chance of staying up.

I remember playing Bournemouth when Kane scored that wonder fluke, and the difference in pace and fitness blew my mind.
Feel like the best bang-for-buck investment you could make is to hire the best fitness and conditioning coaches you can find and have them murder the squad over the summer to get them closer to the level.
Probably still won't get you all that near to staying up but it might be better than spunking £100m on players and still sinking like a stone!

Kompany getting the Bayern job sent all the wrong messages. I feel the same way about Maresca being fast tracked to the Chelsea job, last year Leicester didn’t have a Plan B whenever they hit snags in games. Acolytes of elite managers can now have 1 good season in the championship and be fast tracked into an elite European job seems ridiculous to me.
You have managers in the Prem like Dyche and Howe who were overlooked despite their achievements. I want Howe to do well and win trophies at Newcastle so have a soft for them and think it’s good for the English game when our coaches do well, the same reason I’m rooting for Potter too.
FL, for his faults, has actually demonstrated a good range in his early management career and that we’re in good hands. We’d need to invest heavily and flawlessly to have any chance of staying up if we were to go all the way. Realistically, the plan would probably be to invest heavily in the squad to be a yo-yo team for 2-3 season before staying up.

The three promoted teams this year have not had a go at it though, how any Leicester or Southampton fans thought they would succeed with championship defences is beyond me. You can stay up If you make the right signings but you have to concentrate on keeping clean sheets in the first season more than being the next Man City clone. If you concentrate on trying to compete against the teams that are not going for titles and European glory and nick points against those that are you can hopefully survive and then build for the second season. Ownership has a big say in it also, for instance if Doug said to us all were not spending were taking the money which means we can purchase the Ricoh would you be happy with that outcome while being tanked every week?

The issue is promoted teams go up and think they can still play the same way when the game is different, an analysis of which teams does the worst shows that the teams set up wanting to be Guardiola and dominate the ball like they did in the Championship do the worst.
Evidence of this Southampton, Leicester, Burnley in this season and last. They all tried to dominate the ball play this pretty passing football and work the ball up slowly low tempo.
The promoted teams that give themselves a better chance have been Luton and Ipswich of which knew they wouldnt see as much of the ball understood the difference in speed of the game and intensity and played to it rather than stay the same.
I think if we went up playing this football we’d have a good chance as we dont just look comfortable when we dominate the ball, we work hard off it and play in a way that mixes pretty passing with quick counter attacks and high tempo. You need that aggression and bite to survive look at Everton last few years not necessarily a pretty team or good quality but showed that fight, hunger and desire.
I would do a more in depth analysis going properly into it but its probably a too big post already
