So has Eccles.

I've no problem with Sheaf coming in as he's great, but if he does it'll be harsh on whoever drops out and certainly not a reflection of their performances.

Then for once we have a selection problem of a positive nature!

I think he allows us to play our most natural game with 3421 TBH
He’s a very different player to anyone who’s been in our starting XI for months now. You can argue that he would be an obvious starter in our platonic ideal team (I would disagree) but it’s pointless at this stage of the season - we need to stick to the plan. Changing things up to accommodate him would be a disaster.

Godden has only just overtaken him to be in the top XI based on minutes played. I think without O’Hare were forced to move Hamer forwards to get some dynamism and goal threat and creativity in the final third. I thought Palmer and Vik started to show a much better understanding than Godden and Vik. And I think at least away we are much more solid in a 3421 with round pegs in round holes.

I think for all his limitations, Godden’s hard work off the ball opens up space for Vik, occupies defenders and gives us options on the counter. Allen does the same, but I’m not sure if Palmer can. He’s a talented player and he may well link up with Vik given time, but we don’t have that right now. It’s the Gus and Vik Show for the next three (inshallah) games and everything’s got to go through them - I just don’t think Palmer’s the kind of selfless player to allow for that.

I think in a game where we’re likely to need to break quickly he offers something only Hamer can compete with.

It took Palmer an eternity to get up to speed first half of season. I wouldn't be relying on him just slotting in even if fit.

Robins is a conservative manager, so there's a fair chance he'll keep the same team, or maybe bring Sheaf back in if he's fit but...

A conservative manager has also liked one up front a fair bit.

Our best football this season has been with one up front, so bringing Allen in for Godden makes sense but...

Against Birmingham and first half today we've played really well, so why change the system but...

Godden does look a little bit lost in the system.

So, keep two up front, or go back to one?
Godden did seem totally lost yesterday didn't he. You hardly knew he was playing at times.

I think Allen for Godden would be a very good move.

It would probably be but... Robins doesn't like changing a team for the sake of it, and both Godden and Allen seem to be on his list of dependables

Hopefully Eccles forgets his shin pads and can’t play lmao
What's your game? He's done fantastic, I personally think Sheaf is one of the most gifted players in the league and would start him, but to slag Eccles like that is madness. I hope you don't get a ticket sort of freak that'd run on the pitch or boo a narrow loss

Really difficult one. I’d be switching back to the box/midfield diamond but not sure on personnel. Allen definitely comes back in for Godden, then a toss up to fit Sheaf/Eccles/Kelly into 2.

I don't think we should be changing it at all. People are attached to certain players, but we've consistently had the most success with two strikers.

I don't think that anyone who played yesterday deserves to lose the shirt. Based on results alone we also seem to be better with Godden and Eccles, than we do with Palmer and Sheaf. Good to have those options off the bench of course, but our formula isn't broken. Don't see why we need to try and fix it.

What Kelly does bring is experience and leadership at a time when it can be invaluable.

Need a lead but I think they will genuinely be as scared of us as we are of them

Akpom looked good outside the box
Giles is so dangerous
We can win it
Watch highlights of Sheff Utd 1 Boro 3. We'll give you chances at the back but if we play to potential going forward it might get away from you...

Need to score early and try and grab another couple as can't see us stopping them scoring especially at there place. But just happy to be in the play offs.

Surprised at the amount of people wanting to take out a guy who's been involved in our last 3 goals.

I don’t think Boro know how to sit back and defend (not well, anyway). We set up to play our usual way - give them possession, we hit them on the break.
No changes probably. Nice to know we’ve got players like Allen and Sheaf to bring on.

I must admit, I've enjoyed your contribution on here; in addition, through the power of Google, I've discovered that your namesake was born just outside Middlesborough (you learn something new every day!)

Not too fussed about lineup, that's MR's decision.
One point I would make is, can we have 2 bloody players going out for short corners, happened nearly every time on Sunday, Hamer only man against 2, that's where the goal came from as well. At one point Hamer was out on his own and we had 8 marking 2 or 3 in the box.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, can we send more than 1 man out to take account of short corners

That’s right there were 3
I know he went to sleep but if he’d covered the run (which he should have) the other player was completely on his own to pick his cross
Obviously it wouldn’t have been as dangerous as what happened

Doesn't sound like Sheaf is ready for a start yet:

"We had Ben Sheaf on the bench on Monday just in case we needed something. He’d only trained for a day but it was worth a risk and thankfully I didn’t have to take it. He’ll have another week’s training, which is great."

Basically down to if he wants to go one or two up front then

Boro ship a lot of goals and we create a lot of chances. But Boro also score a s**t ton of goals. I think the key to this match is how tight we keep things at the back. I think if we can get a lead going into the second leg, it would be worth bringing Allen in for Godden.

There goalie reminds me of an up market Reice Charles-Cook, fancying himself as an outfield player and overdoing it at times. Am expecting our games with Boro to be close so could really do with our forwards being switched onto nick the ball off him for a soft goal.
