Found this old ariticle on my lunch, some people were spot on, some people were way off...

"David Jones
I think the one of my favourite games at highfeild road was the 6-1win against derby. I HAVE BEEN A COV SUPPORTER ALL MY LIFE THE ATOMSPHERE ATTHE RICOH IS AMAZING, I'LL MISS HIGHFEILD FOR SURE BUT THE RICOH IS BIGGER AND BETTER.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Frank Ballantine
Best days at highfield road for me was in the mid 70/s in the west end when it was split down the middle with the opposing fans, the banter was awesome and i would bring back the terraces tomorrow, as for the ricoh well the atmosphere will never be as good as highfield road"

by contrast:

"aimee
We have a better ground now!!"

Mine is a minority view - without comparing with HR, I do like the Ricoh and I am proud to call it our own even though we do not own it. It speaks of the ambition that we ought to have as a club i.e. playing in a shiny new stadium fit for PL football. At the moment it's the only thing that's "Premier League" about our club.

The only good thing about the Ricoh is that it is somewhere to play that can fit the majority of us in when the mood takes us

Admittedly my days of Highfield Road were the last 10 years - 95-05 but am I the only one who thought something needed doing? I mean HR was old, it desperately needed modernising, the atmosphere was good when full but so is the RICOH I don't think either is better or worse... I'm not a fan of the Ricoh but when full the roar from the crowd is class

If we were at HR now and playing Premier League football (well you can dream) we would undoubtedly be looking to move. The Ricoh in the PL, full every week, fanzone in the exhibition hall, Sky Blue everywhere.... We'd all love it then.

Anyway, back to reality. League 2 fixtures out tomorrow, whoopee!

It comes down to very few things for me:
  • The City centre to HR walk and the beers and atmosphere build up along the way was unique.
  • The parallels to the Ricoh with the majority of our demise, to SISU and lately to Wasps.
  • An ever shrinking active fanbase in a stadium we've never rarely been able to fill.

If the Ricoh was more regularly full and had a decent walk up to the stadium then I would have fond memories of HR, rather than actively miss it.

a ccfc owned stadium, with a workable train from the city centre and a fan zone in the exhibition hall every home game, along with winning team would have very few people looking back in regret

Sadly, we are some way off any of that

David Jones lol. Can only assume he hasn't been back up at the Ricoh since the Chelsea FA cup tie.

It needed a bit of development, a new Sky Blue stand and West Stand corner, the capacity could have been increased towards 30k quite easily.

I never seen HR as completely falling apart at the seams though, you take stadiums like Leicester and Southampton they were in a rough state. The Ricoh has coincided with the fall of our club so will always be tarnished with that reputation and the fact that it is no longer ours has turned that dislike to loathing. Sadly we have no alternative in sight and we will always play second fiddle in this stadium

I think I remember the first game at the Ricoh. Was it 3-0 v QPR? I'm sure we scored 3 anyway, including a diving header from jorgensson. I may have got carried away myself at the time and had similar thoughts initially. The problem is, in a short space of time we moved to the Ricoh, had Operation Premiership banded about and spent money that we obviously didn't have...

HR is a distant memory, along with being a Premiership, championship and league one club that is all in the past unfortunately. The Ricoh does still provide us with decent facilities and potentially hold decent gates, should the club's organisation get sorted out and we start winning. I think if we can be towards the top of the league come Christmas we'll be getting gates close to (if not over) 20k. I find it difficult to be positive with our owners, but I am allowing myself to believe that Mark Robins is being allowed to influence the club structure and decision making. Which I hope can help turn around however many years of pain...
