Sky Blues boss says he will waste no time in welcoming new faces into the building as long as they are right onesCoventry City boss Steven Pressley says the club are ready and primed to start bringing new faces into the building tomorrow if the right ones present themselves.

Pressley is in the process of rebuilding a side for the forthcoming 2014/15 League One campaign and while he says he is ready to welcome new faces into the building right away, he wants to be patient in order to make sure he brings in the right ones

"We have been working tirelessly to identify the right kind of player that we want to bring into the building and we are looking to start the recruitment process as quickly as possible but we have to make sure we get the right ones," Pressley said.

"If the right player presents himself to us tomorrow then we will sign him tomorrow but at this moment in time that has not been the case.

"I obviously have to think strategically in terms of managing my playing budget for next season but part of that process may be that certain players move out which frees up additional finance to bring in the right players to replace them."

Pressley added that he would again consider visiting the loan market to compliment permanent signings on the premise that he gets them in the building quickly enough for them to adapt to City's proposed style of play ahead of the new season.

"I think that loan options may be possible for us but for me it's about character. We experienced loan situations where players had not spent long enough with us and did not have the time to adapt to our style of play in terms of the high press and the level of intensity and lessons must be learned from that.

"Equally we had people like Michael Petrasso who is a great example of a loan player with the right character that adapted very quickly and made a contribution although we were unable to keep him here for as long as we would have liked.

"In my opinion, if you have a loan player that buys into and immerses themselves in the club's culture then it doesn't matter that they are loan players because if they spend long enough with you it feels almost as though they become your player.

"But no matter how much we press for players, we also have to play a waiting game in terms of the right ones becoming available. It can be a domino effect from the Premier League when the first moves are made which set off a chain of events to make certain players available. We are ready to act if that happens and the right individuals come along for us but as of yet that has not been the case so we will be patient."

4 defenders would be a good start, surprised how quick Pressley changed his mind about loan players, hasn't really got a choice though has he ?

Interesting how he mentions Petrasso! I think he'd be a great signing if he came available, albeit on loan!

Wouldn't be surprised to see him feature more regularly for QPR next season though

I think his destination next season will be dependent on tomorrow's outcome with Derby. If they go up, I'd imagine he'd be used sparingly in the Prem. Even so, I'm sure a few championship scouts have been alerted to his talents. We are probably at the bottom of the food chain :(

Reading the above again, it's hardly surprising that players aren't queuing up to sign for us. Pittance wage in front of no fans at a shithole whilst the contract security probably doesn't extent to beyond 18 months tops!

Interesting that he says that players may have to move out I.e. Biggest earners? Baker? Murphy? Moussa? Christie? Everyone else will be on a crap wage anyway. Fleck may get a bit of interest too but aside from that I can hardly imagine being inundated with offers for the back 4!! We should pay for someone to take them off our hands! ;)

Basically SP is saying what he is told. It's quite clear he has been given a script and he has to read it due to his employers.

A few months ago he despised the loan system now it's fine. "We could sign players tomorrow" yeah but we won't but says it to reassure fans that it's on the agenda when really it's probably not.

Seems a good script that unfortunately I don't buy.

Sure it's just a coincidence that in the middle theres a link to buy season tickets! Its the same old story at this time of year when there's tickets to sell. Actions speak louder than words with this kind of thing and we'll see how the standard of the squad at the start of this season compares to the one that started last season.

My thoughts exactly King.

Nice bit of PR he's had to read IMHO. Coupled with a link to renew your season ticket.

Yes I forgot to put that in my post but you and chiefdave have rightly stated. We are in the market for Anelka and beckham, oh and you can renew your season ticket to watch them at sixfields infront of a fellow 1000 fans 34 miles away if you're lucky enough.

Now that I think about it I am quite a happy person LOL!! #PUSB

I genuinely mean it. I envy those who can get the pre-season optimism, get their season ticket early. That stuff's been spoiled for me personally, but I'm glad the old Sky Blue optimism burns through somewhere.

havent they been "working tireless" since Clarke left ?

Surely it is Wagotts job and they must know who is out of contract ?

Not having any of what Pressley has said today. We know we are in the market for free transfers and many are now available, so surely some are on Pressleys list ?

If he said "we are trying to get a few over the line" thats fine, but its rather bizarre to say "if they are available"

No because unlike him I would love to see the back of sodium and would snap anybody's hand off to go back to the ricoh !!!! I just go to support the boys #PUSB somewhat different to RFC !!!

Yes you have my full respect unlike others who go out of spite to the council or other joke reasons.

I really hope the season ticket you have bought will be for the Ricoh come start of August and Then I can be there also.

What complete Tosh Pressley, we have a great goal keeper, one of the players of the season and a significant reason we are still in this league, he wants to stay, he's willing to take a pay cut to stay. Yet have we offered him a contract? have we fuck, Pressley has said he needs to wait to do that, yet he could sign players tomorrow. Bollocks.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. /wave

agreed. Simple fact is we would "strengthen" if we re-signed Murphy and also signed Marshall.

Sadly, thats my level of expectation though, re-sign those two

All he is saying he is ready to sign someone tomorrow because thay are at that stage not he is,he has to assess the players he is going to bring in as he has little budget to do that, sure he will look at who he wants to keep and will try and get pen to paper with them, its not pressleys fault we are where we are its our owners and the citys council who put us in this position and he has done incredibly well to keep us up this season, even if he has a little more to learn so can we stop critisising him as he's the best manager we've had in years so we should enjoy it while we have him because he is one of the few gems we are clinging on to,to get us by these hard times #PUSB !!!!!

To be fair, Pressley isn't the one responsible for getting the contracts together and making players sign on the dotted line. Aside from banging on the door of those responsible for such matters there isn't a whole lot he can physically do. That these people are more preoccupied with court hearings and attempts to bankrupt other companies rather than on-field matters doesn't help at all.

This is where I get confused, is it SP or Waggott or both?

Judging by the players signed last season I would guess they were signed by Joy. She has admitted she knows fook all about football.

Personally think it's going to be awful next season...we'll get of to a poor start as Pressley won't have the -10 points to use to motivate them ( then again you never know with this lot in charge) he'll have to settle for loan players which will need time to settle in, if he thinks his hands were tied last season he's in for a shock next season.i like Pressley he could be a great manager for us under the right circumstances but I'll be surprised if he lasts the season,at some point he'll have had enough of this mess and who can blame him, I thought getting relegated from the prem would be my lowest point as a cov fan, it's got nothing on how I feel about next season. Disgraceful what's been allowed to happen to our club everyone involved should be ashamed, apologies for the early morning rant :)

Dear Elvis,

Stop pissing about with nothing press releases, re-sign Murphy for a start, and people may believe what you are saying.

Preseason flannel designed to attract new season ticket sales...
The team gets weaker every season whilst under sisu and playing in another town.
They just put enough money into the club to keep it breathing and not a penny more
