Impact on Local Businesses of CCFC Move to Birmingham (2 Viewers)

I've seen something on Twitter that suggests one business local to the Ricoh Arena (Bull & Anchor) has lost revenue to the tune of £25k per match day while we've been away. That's staggering. I'm going to reach out to them to verify as part of what myself & Pete are doing, but got me wondering how many other businesses are feeling that kind of strain.

I'm not local anymore, and don't often drink/use businesses near the Ricoh personally when I attend games, so was looking for suggestions of others I could reach out to, to see if they'll provide some sort of impact on their business and then use it to apply pressure in discussions with all parties involved. Let me know of any local businesses you tend to use near the Ricoh on game days, whether it's for drinking, car parking or anything else.

there was an article in the local press and they definitely said what there losses were though I can't remember the figure. It may have been in the CET.

I am not too sure about £25k a matchday for the bull and anchor though, it seems a bit excessive. As a guestimate there would have been about 100 fans in there, 2 pints at £4 each is still only £800. They wouldn't sell enough food. I'd say it is more like £2.5k a game.

I think the bloke from the bull and anchor confirmed this too in an article.

The other thing is that the Bull and Anchor could have made much more if they had made an effort for the football.

Why don’t you ask someone at one of the Universities to do some research? Warwick has a business school no? Surely this would be of interest to someone in that field? Anyone on here with any contacts? Could even use anything useful coming out of it to put in front of the various parties especially the council, to help motivate them to get back round the table?

The Arena Shopping Park is the main one, especially the food outlets I’d imagine.

Casino is an obvious one, although as ACL are their landlords they might not want to go on the record. There's all the places nearby that do unofficial parking. Must be loads, not sure of specific names but if you factor in pubs, take aways, hotels for away fans, taxis then it has to have a significant impact.

The Hub near the rail crossing always seemed to have parking/be full IIRC.

City center pub , before match 2 beers x five persons (10 pints plus 4 meals)2x taxis£15 each way approx. , 6/7 beers x five persons( 30/40) pints,after match before going separate ways ,so more to that plus then another taxi home

The Cov Welsh car park for example was a fiver each. Obviously it's just guessing but there was usually a minimum of 150 carts in there.

Then you have people going in and buying drinks etc and when you add it up it would easily be a grand a match which isn't small change to somewhere like that.

There's away fans as well, if there was a big following there is the places they would park and eat. Getting the train so you have the places by the train station on their way in.

We barely break even on the coach at £5 per person, The brewery bar opens at 11am and we leave at 1pm for a 3pm kickoff and most people will not arrive until 12pm so we only have an hours drinking time from people using the service. Night games and Sunday games are even worse with next to no takings behind the bar and barely covering the coach.

Factor in also loss of away fans, at times last season we would easily have 300 in on a match day now,even with improved performance we are looking at a max of 120 in for 1 hour, some of whom will not buy a drink. You would have to speak to Dal Dhillon to find out exactly how much they have lost but it's significant.

I think if places like that start to speak out on the damage CCFC not being there does to business then people might listen? Fair play to them, they are thinking outside the box and running coaches etc.

It's still way too much for any local business to be losing because of a corrupt council and a London Franchise. If you add up the £2.5k from each local business that you have listed, and times it by the ammount of games per season, it's still over £1m the local community is losing out on over a whole season.

Just for some idea, Sheffield council estimated that them getting promoted to the premier league was worth approx an extra £4m for the local community.
That's extra, not worth £4m, an EXTRA £4m from whatever it would of been in the Championship. Through extra tourism, more away fans, more TV coverage (how tv coverage helps the local community I dont know but hey ho).

You could argue businesses near Highfield Road lost out due to the move to the Ricoh and the mentioend pubs gained from 2005 onwards. Were they considered when we moved to the Ricoh in the first place?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's significantly more than that across the community.
