Kitching and Binks together could work but there’s very few examples of a successful pairing of two left footed CBs in a back 4.

It’s different for right footed CBs because they often get placed at LCB in teams without a left footed CB. Some really excel at it (like Terry or Van Diijk as high profile examples).

Left footed CBs are pretty rare and therefore hardly ever get placed at RCB so most haven’t buillt up expedience and confidence playing there. So partnering Kitching and Binks introduces more risk to an area where we can’t afford it at the moment.

Right now, I’d go for Thomas & Kitching but I do think Binks has potential.

If a player isn't performing then they have every chance of getting dropped, right? I am not saying play a player just because the cost a lot, but you should be looking at trying to get a return of value. Our defence hasn't been brilliant recently but we have two CB's on the bench, one of which was about 4 million IIRC - that is an outrageous amount of money for someone to be sitting there not contributing, especially when we aren't defending spectacularly.
But that argument could then easily be used for Binks if he’s sat on the bench. Let’s be honest Kitching has hardly set the world on fire and had been sent off in more than 10% of the games he played last season.

I think if we’d brought them in for £2m, same as Kitching, we’d all be saying they’re a decent signing. £4m+ for L1 players is always a statement IMO.
It’s not a lot of money nowadays though and the £4m is largely a figure established on here. I may be proved wrong but I do think in time at least two of them will massively increase in value (Kitching and Rudoni).

Sorry but it is. Look at the Top 15 I posted. Rudonis fee is the 7th highest of all time for L1. That’s a big fee by any metric.

Agreed. But time is a factor. £4m today is £2m 2-3 years ago and will be £6m in another 2-3.

OK well discount everyone more than three years ago.

Now Rudoni is the most expensive and also one of the oldest signings from L1, and EMC and Kitching are numbers 3 and 5 of the top five and the eldest by a clear three years.

Whatever way you cut it, we’ve massively overpaid for L1 talent.
