In ROD we trust? (1 Viewer)

A few weeks ago the CT stated that ROD was going to leave - he has another year on his contract and I haven't heard of any bids. Northampton were mentioned as they signed Platt too.

Given our strained circumstances and AT saying he wants to ensure that we sign replacements before letting players leave, is it fair to say we'll be starting the season with ROD still in the squad/team? Apart from Cody and Jeffers, we have no other strikers!

Oh and ROD may end up playing midfield or wide, as at least he is versatile (i..e equally crap in all positions) given the paucity of our squad!

RoD is not good enough for CCFC, niether is Jeffers

We need a partner for Cody, plus a capable back up for when Cody is injured or "unfit"

O'donovan is one of the worst players I've ever seen. He must go regardless.

Please tell me we're not reliant on ROD. That's like preparing for invasion by the Chinese army, and relying of the combined forces of the Isle of Wight to spurn their aggression

I thought we were waiting for an invasion for the Chinese army. I think your analogy is slightly unfair - to the Isle of Wight. Sark would be more appropriate.

I wouldn't trust RoD to serve the half time cups of tea. He is absolute turd. Couldn't score in a brothel with £50 stuck up his arse.

He will finish top goal scorer for us.........in pre season. I think he might have done this last pre season tbf, even then he only got one or two goals.

If like to think it would work out for him in league 1, but I just can't see it.

Poor ROD

Even a pub player like Roy O'Donovan can be awarded a 3 year contract, no wonder football is financially fcuked

I'd love to think that given his record at Hartlepool he could do a job in this division for us, but he's possibly the most nervous footballer I've ever seen. He just seems to panic whenever he plays for CCFC in front of a resonable crowd (ie not pre-season!). Not exactly ideal for a goal-poacher!

To be fair Jeffers is still a kid and only turned 20 in April, baring in mind that nimely and Norwood turned 22 in April.

Simply atrocious player. One of the worst players ever to wear a Coventry shirt. Arguably the worst striker to play for CCFC with the possible exception of John Gayle.

Afraid so. Enlighten me...

Signed by Gould in the early 80's I assume from Bristol Rovers - tried hard but awful. Just googled him and he popped up on a discussion about worst players to play for Cardiff so at least he was consistent.

Trevor Benjamin has to get a mention amongst such exalted company!

He wouldn't be nervous due to the fact everyone in the home crowd knows he's crap and tells him at every single opportunity? He IS guilty of a fraud by calling himself a footballer & accepting the wage would he? Basically, who'd take him from the City? He's a warm body to sit on the bench and no more. Kids like Jeffers can get a run in League 1 to see if they can develop into a player that can get City promotion and ultimately a nice transfer fee profit.

Cannot disagree, ROD has to be one of the worst on record, total headless chicken, he has some pace but makes all the wrong runs as he misreads the game at will.

alex nimley and Norwood are both 12 months older than Jeffers. Jeffers has failed to make impacts in League 2 and the conference when on loan there. What little I've seen of him does not inspire confidence, seems to spend most of the time chasing his first touch. As bad as ROD has been for us I doubt Jeffers will have as hood a career. Just because some of our yoth players have developed well it is often assumed all will.

How can anyone have a worse career than O'donovan?

............

Jeffers was only 18 when he went out loan to League two and the conference - Norwood and Nimely were effectively 2 years older than him when they came on loan to us. 2 years is a big difference. Not young he's good or that he'll develop into a good player but it's harsh to judge him on a loan period when he was so young.

ROD got 9 in 15 games when on loan to Hartlepool when they were in our league. But I think his confidence has gone. Jeffers may come good but he has done nothing in his career to suggest that he will. To even suggest that he will be reliable and worthy striker in this league is based on blind hope rather than hard facts. A lot of players at 20 have made impacts at teams Jeffers has had zero impact wherever he has been.

The Hartlepool record for O'donovan is it. How old is he? 26? How many professional games has he started (not last minute subs) I don't know but I would guess 30 maximum. A lucky man to have have been paid this long as a pro footballer. There is no debate just get rid.

At the minute we have no other option than to keep this sort of player due to depth...Squad players at best..

yeah ROD just aint as good as i always hoped he would be. Remember seeing him in the Leauge of Ireland and really thought he was a smashing player (scored for fun). Quick created chances but finishing needed to improve. He is a funny player in the respect of a lot of the chances he gets he makes himself just never was a clinical enough Finisher. Think this division is about his level. Would rather keep him in squad than lose him and have no replacments.
