Info for Coventry fans travelling to Grimsby (2 Viewers)

Hope you do not mind me posting on your forum, so info for the travelling fans going to the Grimsby game on Saturday.

Travelling by train that Cleethorpes Town is the nearest train station to Blundell Park, on the platform is a pub called the No.2 which is small but serves real ales, its about 15 minute walk to the ground. A number of buses run from the High Street frequently the number 3, 9 & 10 takes about 10 minutes.

By car (sat nav DN35 7PY) follow the signs for Grimsby on the M180, continue on this road when it becomes the A180. This road runs right past the Blundell Park and the ground is adjacent to the McDonalds Drive-Thru. Parking is extremely limited around Blundell Park. We advise supporters to arrive early and use the local street parking. Please be aware though that some areas close to the ground have match day parking restrictions and traffic wardens work Saturdays.

Blundell Park in an old football ground and does not have the facilities of a 21st century modern ground, its a proper football ground, with atmosphere. The fully trained stewards are they to help and assist and will engage with friendly banter, rather than a heavy hand approach, provided you adere to the stadium rules.

They are no pubs close by Blundell Park for visiting supporters. The Mariners Trust run a bar with Sky Sports within the ground behind the Osmond Stand which is solely for away fans, the staff are friendly and are creating a unique atmosphere by hanging the colours of away fans in the bar, so if you have a spare scarf or flag, bring it along to add to the collection in return for a few free beers.
The nearest pub outside the ground being the The Coliseum Picture Theatre (Wetherspoons) on the High Street (15 minute walk), various other pubs close-by. No visit to Grimsby & Cleethorpes is complete, renowned for its Fish & Chips (Haddock) try Steel's Fish & Chip restaurant in the Market Place in Cleethorpes can get busy (recommend the jumbo fish & chips, you will not be disappointed), Papa's on Cleethorpes Pier (caters for large numbers, you can reserve a table and the view is stunning) and the Ocean Bar in St.Peter's Avenue.

A Facebook page has been created for away fans to post on, away days at BP.

Have a safe journey and enjoy your day.

Grab 'em while you can - a visit to an 'old' ground. Part of the fabric of the game to witness a 'proper' stadium before everything becomes totally sanitised and copied. Quite enjoyed my one and only visit to Blundell Park soon after we dropped out of Prem.
Feel sorry for those planning on a trip up to pay on the gate after the bizarre decision made this morning.

Brilliant information, thanks

It will be good to see the away end full, only Plymouth in recent years have managed to fill the away end.
Like I said if parking in the streets near the ground, they are no time restrictions, but DO NOT park in front of any drop down kerbs, double yellows or on street corners, even if are no double yellow lines, over keen traffic wardens patrol the area during the game, looking to issue a.parking ticket.

Nothing worse than coming back to a ticket stuck on the windowscreen.

Have a good trip up.

Won't be full as tickets taken off sale at 1400 due to the local safety group. Shame as lots that want to go will either miss out or end up in the home end.

Did we get to the bottom of what this 'safety' issue is?

Who are you, and why are you being so nice and helpful?

I'm driving from Lincoln and street-parking, then some beers and ships on the seafront pre-match. Went to BP in 2003 with Port Vale and sat in the away end, and also visited the area in 2015 - I am not expecting much to have changed. Usually get my pre-match information from Football Ground Guide for which I have been a long-term contributor and reader.

Any suggestion your long-mooted new stadium will get built? Probably sooner than our chimera of a new ground!

Yeah it's an odd thing to be told by the ticket checker on the train that you don't want to go to Grimsby for the game against Grimsby. I remember we won the game and it's a bloody long way from the south but not much else.

Grimsby station isn't much further away than Cleethorpes station. But if you don't know your way around you are much better off going to Cleethorpes. And Cleethorpes is the last stop so you can't miss it. There are pubs close by. And you can get to the ground from the station just going along one road or instead turn left on the seafront at the side of the station and follow the sea wall. There is a bridge that takes you over the trainlines at the side of the stadium.
