Imo there was never any chance off us retaining him. We will survive without him, im sure off it.

Never likely he would stay.

Massive ask to try and find someone who can fill his boots.

Ok was always going to be a long shot - lets hope we can get the very best out of him for what time he remains here - could still give us a massive shove up the table - and remember we have an opportunity to sign one of MR's own then too

I honestly believe ROD can get us 20 goals.

Unfortunately it would take him 7 seasons to do so.

Key words are monitoring, could bid and abroad.

He has a young family. That could stop the abroad interest if there is any.

The FC Twente opportunity is interesting... If he goes, I want him to go to Holland.

But I'm not convinced he'll start at the teams interested (bar us!) maybe Blackpool and Burnley.

Roy O'Donovan has scored 9 in 15 for Hartlepool. In this league.

I predict if he goes to a championship club he will really struggle to take his current form with him....

He is young enough to take a decent run here on reasonable wages before he makes a premature jump up

Too soon and he will really tarnish his future potential opportunities to shine anywhere

Seriously if I were him I'd stay here and bang in a ton of goals and really make a name for myself over the season

And 0 in 16 for us and 1 in 14 for Hibs when on loan.

And since he first came over from Ireland he has played a total of 89 games and he's scored only 12 goals.

That's an average of 1 goal every 7 1/2 games.McGoldrick's scored more goals this season than ROD's scored in the last 3 years.

If it's ROD up front my prediction of 14th is going to look very, very ambitious indeed me thinks.

I think we all know that McGoldrick will almost certainly be off at the end of the loan.

It makes it very easy for SISU as well so they will be happy. It's difficult to compete financially with higher league teams blah, blah.

Simplified way of looking at it.

If Forest had a player on loan at MK Dons last season, and we (whilst in the championship) were looking at signing him.
It wouldn't even be a debate about if we'd get him ahead of MK Dons. Of course we would.

We will not keep him, doesn't matter if he 'loves it here' or not. Life is about progression and a league above us is progression, more money or not.

I'm just glad that I was never offered a contract in Switerland to play for that team called BSC Young Boys. I just couldn't bear the thought of me telling my mates "I play with Young Boys!" :D :D

I'm not saying this is going to happen, but look at Clingan, left Norwich to play for us, short term, better move, long term, well, we got relegated to L1 Norwich are now in the prem.

Sometimes you have to think about long term rather than short term even if it means playing at a worse level on less pay.

and we wouldn't want sideways sammy in our team so why would premiership Norwich? a 1month contract at doncaster says it all about clingan

With you all the way on that BUT players do not think like that I'm afraid. They see the £ sign first and foremost. Having said that, it is a short career so you can't really blame them.

It's all about the 'Money.... Money... Money..' not about the 'Footie.... Footie... Footie..'

Agent will get him on his bike for a nice pay day and he'll say nice things about his time here.............. End of story!

SORRY........

I feel that if we offer him a decent contract with get out clauses that are fair so he could move easily if had a really good opportunity come his way then he would remain where he is for the season at least.
We are not MK Don's in that analogy either. CCFC no matter what you think is a way bigger club than most teams in the Championship never mind in league 1. Prospects are there for promotion runs and like Norwich you may find yourself in the Prem quicker than you would otherwise get there if you went to say Barnsley?

We need not waste time trying to keep him. A new loanee as a replacement is what we need. Getting him on a perm is a non starter

But he loves it here like bigi

Bigi was given the opportunity to go to one of the biggest clubs in England whereas McG has the opportunity to go to a mid table championship side. (Bit of exaggeration but see my point)

But I do agree, nonetheless, that just because a player 'loves' it at CCFC, don't mean they'll stay!

But before that we have to have an offer accepted by Forest, potentially competing against clubs from a higher league with bigger transfer kitty's.

I think, weirdly, we might be willing to pay more (250k ish) because of his importance to us whereas a championship team may think it's a risk and not offer that much. In short, we might pay over the odds. I hope so anyway.

So he has already failed at Championship level and Forest who need goals don't want him back, but Championship clubs are supposedly queueing up for him? McG will go to any Championship before us when he is doing so well, has settled in well and in the best run of his career and will go to any Championship that wants him, risking not playing all the time again?

He will know it is important to play at his age. Look how good Cody looked in Div 4. Not doing it in div 3 is he?

Do you think we should pay the £900k rent we owe first?

There's absolutely no way that we will pay over the odds for him....£250k no chance.

That might be covered in 50% share deal, I don't know.

250k is wishful thinking, but it is possible if we're that desperate, or SISU are for that matter as they may see him as the man to get us promoted. Again, for some reason, I have 250k as a figure in my head because rid it came down to it, we'll find that money, somehow.

I think the report from Sky only emphasises his agents work in touting him to different clubs that he identifies are in need of a goal scorer. It's what a good agent with just a month out from his loan expiration will do - and while his player is in sparkling form.
As for those clubs actually being interested is debatable and a lot of Championship clubs simply have no money and some can not break the rules to spend any either.
The problem we face as many have said is whether we will find upwards of 200K to prise him from Forest's contract early or if one of the agents identified clubs want to take a punt on him and the player wants to go. I would only think that will happen if it was a club with greater potential such as Leeds, where he would be foolish to turn down such a move in my opinion regadless of what Coventry could offer.
First he has to keep his form up. I admit it does not look good and have warned we need to bring Cody into the fold more. It's not that he is a bad goal poacher he simply has been unfortunate enough to have been largely frozen out since arriving. I do think he will score for us in this league. I'm also aware MR's is very astute in the loan market and we may get a more than suitable replacement in....there are many strikers in the top two tiers failing to get decent time on the pitch. It will be a fun one to watch.
