The question is, how many supporters will switch allegiances to the new club?
I probably would, because my ties to the club are purely through the city. If my father wasn't a Coventrian I wouldn't be supporting CCFC. I'm somewhat skeptical though that a new club would be as well supported in terms of numbers as CCFC is.
That would be good. But we need people with financial clout. May as well start from scratch and bring back the passion and commitment of fans.
This is a watershed moment. Im pretty sure the majority of season ticket holders, particularly those who have been with the club for the past 40 years no longer identify with the current brand of Coventry City. Many of them will be abandoned if the team if ccfc goes elsewhere. I predict attendances of 7,000 next season at the Ricoh with SISU in charge.
4000 maximum if they go elsewhere.....They (No longer us) in those circumstances.
You talk as though any move out of the city would be permanent, when we all know it wouldn't last more than a season in reality. Start a new club fine, but within a season or two, the real CCFC would be back in the city playing league football. Who would people choose to watch, CCFC or some wishy-washy alternative knocking about a league or two above Cov Sphinx?
Why would it have to start outside the City? Are there rules?

I still think we'll be at the Ricoh come the new season.
The only problem with starting a new club is that it would have to start playing its football outside the City which is the one thing everyone wants to avoid
The Butts? The Ricoh?Because there is no stadium to play in
Look what happened to Wimbledon they were moved to milton keynes not many followed them there, they are now a Milton Keynes side.
They restarted the club in the lowest division and are now on the way up with their old supporters not bad for team that only had 5000 supporters.:blue:
The Butts? The Ricoh?
CCFC playing league football in Coventry would, of course, win. No contest.
I think jimmyhillsfanclub said it best; any new club would have to replace the old one, not merely supplant it while the old one sorted its shit out.
If the worst happens and the club is liquidated for good and all then a new team starting from scratch might work but until that time its just a distraction.
Besides if people wanted to watch non-league footy in Cov why wouldnt they just go and watch the Sphinx? They are already up and running, with bigger crowds and some investment they could probably move up the league structure more easily than a brand new team could.
Because they are not Coventry City. AFC Wimbledon ARE Wimbledon FC. The existing club playing in a different town would in essence no longer be Coventry City, certainly not to me or anybody I know. You try telling any Wimbledon fan that they should be supporting MK Dons and see what they say to you...if they can build up from the bottom, as a bigger club, so can we!

sky blues fc,why not as there is no such place as Port Vale,we can give ourselves any name we want.
This.
Crap analogy I know, but would Man Utd fans turn to FC United of Manchester if Utd themselves went bust? Doubt it.
