Is now the time to start a new club? (1 Viewer)

SISU in charge and playing elsewhere would never be Coventry City even if they did steal the name and lets face it with their business acumen would soon go bust anyway.

Just had a brief discussion with Daryl Murphy on Twitter about this.

Could a potential buyer (Haskell, whoever) buy CCFC Ltd (containing the name & Golden Share) & 50% of the Ricoh, arrange a rent deal with ACL and leave CCFC Holdings (players, staff etc) alone?

The idea being the new owner would have a “staffless” football club and be able to staff it with who they see fit. New manager, players, office staff the lot.

SISU would be left with just players & staff and no football club. Leaving them open to the new owner, popping back in a months time and cherry picking the best of the previous staff.

So what was the answer?

How can you say that is a shit comparison we will be lucky to attract more fans then Wimbledon next year wake up Sisu don't give a fuck they just want to win even if it is liquidation I have supported City for over 40 years but not if they move..........
That's a shit comparison. That involved an already poorly supported club moving to the largest urban area in the UK without a league club and starting afresh.

What large population centre could SISU move us to where there is no football club and a decent sized ground sitting empty? Not only that, league have rules in place against that sort of thing now.

Any move would be temporary, so any new club would have to compete directly with CCFC, and nobody I know would turn their back on the club they have supported all their life to go and support a new club playing in a pub league. That's the reality, so all this new club talk is silly.

Because they are not Coventry City. AFC Wimbledon ARE Wimbledon FC. The existing club playing in a different town would in essence no longer be Coventry City, certainly not to me or anybody I know. You try telling any Wimbledon fan that they should be supporting MK Dons and see what they say to you...if they can build up from the bottom, as a bigger club, so can we!

But this would not happen because the league would not allow it to happen. Did Bristol Rovers cease to be Bristol Rovers when they played in Bath? No, because it was temporary.

So CCFC would return to the city because they would have to. If they didn't, or went bust then any new club would of course be considered the true continuation of Coventry City, but any club set up while CCFC was still in existence with intentions to move home would lack any sort of credibility.

As for Wimbledon rising up as a 'bigger club'. Rubbish. When they played their play-off final at COMS (a hugely significant fixture in the context of their recent history) they took less than 6000 fans. What criteria are you using to suggest they are bigger now than they were before?

None, I didn't suggest that-I said that we are a bigger club than Wimbledon!

Fine, I misread that. Apologies

It still doesn't change the fact that the Wimbledon comparison doesn't stand up. They made a permanent move away from their historic fanbase. Nobody is suggesting that would happen here, not least because it would not be allowed to happen. Until such time that CCFC is dead (and some people it seems positively want that to happen) any talk of a rival club is just a silly distraction.

If we move away from Coventry, CCFC IS dead to me. I think Wimbledon is the perfect comparison given that they were relocated, which is what they're talking about doing with us. Hopefully you are right and it won't be allowed to happen, even better, hopefully these bastards are forced out so that we can stop even thinking about it! To be fair, CCFC is very close to being dead to me if we enter another season under SISU's ownership any way. There's only so much that a man can take and I've had my fill

IMO no I personally wouldn't support it. The club would have no history. We wouldn't have won the fa cup, or had all those years in the prem in our history. Despite sisu destroying the club and making us a laying stock I personally think good times are coming soon.

I just about agree with you. Just one thing in a weird synchronistity, Wimbledon moved away to become Milton Keynes Dons, CCFC move to become Northampton/Walsall Sky Blues. What happens to the FA Cup won in 1987 just a year before Wimbledon won their's in 1988? Took years to get it back & then Merton Council took custody, not the new club.

CCFC in Coventry at the Ricoh - ownership & stadium owners & fans working TOGETHER to get the club back where we believe we belong.
