Is the Ricoh return masking a problem ? (1 Viewer)

With the excitement regards return to the Ricoh have we taken our eyes off the ball, I believe we have only won 5 games in 25 and that is relegation form. This isn't by the way a slight on manager Pressley but worries me that much needed new blood to boost our squad is not forth coming. Part of Steve Waggott's "we must win back the fans" mantra has to include some realistic investment in players, there's not a lot of time before the transfer window shuts and Pressley did say a couple of days ago nothing is happening on the that front.

Don't worry about the investments in signining's. SP hasn't even touched the Wilson money yet, he's got money to spend on the right players.

It's a new season and almost a new team which has started well enough for me. The Ricoh should boost performance if nothing else. They deserve it and I hope the support talked about so often if they returned to the Ricoh actually shows up!

When Simon Jackson is fully fit, we'll have arguably the best striker in the league. At present we lack any threat in behind the defence. Jackson is similar to Wilson in that he always looks to make runs and turn defenders. Fleck needs players running in behind to play to his strengths and the team need the option of pinging a ball over the top for someone with pace to run onto. We scored many goals like that last year and it forced our opposition deeper, worrying about a quick striker.

On this season alone, it's a positive start. We were unlucky not to get a point at Bradford, Beat Sheff Utd, Should have beat Barnsley and got a solid point at the Dons. I'll take 5 points out of that lot to be fair.

It's a new season with a largely new squad, the last 3 games, unbeaten, 2 clean sheets and 5 points against 3 teams fancied for top 6

Does anyone seriously believe that SP will get a penny from the sale of Callum Wilson to spend on new players. Leopards don't change their spots and SISU will have pocketed that money to cover huge losses playing at Sixfields.

I think SkyblueTony176 was being sarcastic.

So, its 5 wins in 25 but you don't blame the manager?
You don't think the recruitment of Johnson, Tudgay, Jackson and others is investment in the team?
...and SP didn't say nothing was happening, he said nothing was iminant.

I'm not blaming the manager (yet). However, after a few more games I think people will become more judgmental as we will have lost the 'playing 46 away games' excuse and fans will be more critical of team selection/formation depending on results. Yes SISU will still cop for a high percentage of the blame for having weakened the squad through their strategy (in my opinion), but SP will have lost a layer of 'protection' if results go in the wrong direction in terms of fans criticism.

Still hoping that Coulibally and Jackson have a positive impact in terms of pace and beating a man, plus a Central midfielder and a defender would be nice !!

Most of those 25 games you are referring to, were after we sold Leon Clarke and had Moussa out injured and Callum Wilson, who did not get much help when he returned. I am happy with this seasons form as we have a new team that needs time to settle. I am more concerned about the Ricoh effect on visiting teams.

Means nothing and besides we've had to tolerate SISU stewardship during all but 2 years at the Ricoh !

Well, it's hardly a fortress ... yet.

I couldn't agree more with this. After watching the cardiff performance and the barnsley game I was left shocked by what I saw. Our midfield goes missing for long periods of the game, with 'slick passing' (in the words of sp) often meaning sideways or backwards, resulting in a long punt that ultimately squanders possession. We don't build pressure or pin teams back in their half and seem devoid of a game plan when things start going wrong.

I like sp and hope he can achieve this philosophy he talks about but too many times under his reign have we seen bad performances assessed as 'positives' post match. Im not calling for his head but simply calling for people to be realistic about performances rather than simply looking at the results.

We need to ditch the 3 5 2 (often played as 5 3 2) in favour of a formation that allows our midfield the chance to get into the game. Many of you on here wont agree with what im saying but how can you defend that first half against cardiff ? Or most of the first half performances this season?

It seems some people have forgotten the reasons why we struggled the back end of last season, transfers and injuries.

This season, a new look side, a new system, a reasonable start, it's a marathon not a sprint. Back at the Ricoh Keep The Faith!
