Isn't it time to swap over goalkeepers? (2 Viewers)

I'm not at all sure if Murphy inspires confidence in the defence and I feel he could have stopped quite a few of the goals if his original handling was better. Surely its time to let Chris Dunn have a start. I've been impressed with his style - very similar to Westwood and his superior height will surely help too

haha, didn't take long to find me out. No I just feel he was impressive for those moments he played in the first team and as our defence is weak we need to look at all the current components to see what options are worth trying

To be honest I can't reel off 10 different things, but there have been times when I thought he could have caught the ball rather than punch it our and thus keep the pressure on the defence. Dunn was impressive on those moments he played in Murphy's place. Sometimes a change round might just do the trick

Murphy did nothing wrong on Saturday and in fact came well for a couple of crosses when we were under pressure. We have far bigger problems than the goalkeeper so unless Dunn can score goals or produce killer passes from midfield I would leave him on the bench.

if you watch the replays for saturdays goals murphy had coles shot covered until it took a deflection, and the second goal was just comical no goalkeeper could be blamed for that..
so why on earth should we drop murphy...

The suggestion to change goalkeepers isn't necessarily because Murphy isn't good enough, but I believe Dunn would do an equal job. He is taller and very competent. His presence may just inspire some confidence in the defence

Admittedly he made a mistake for the 4th goal against Southampton, but I am not sure he was to blame on Saturday.... there wasnt a lot wrong with his positionning for either goal.... both goals had more to do with other errors and bad luck Also I thought he came off his line a number of times in the match to claim crosses

Any one else think that Greens goal kick for the first should have been retaken as was a moving ball ? Let alone the Cole foul !

stick whatever goal keeper you like in there it wont change anything, there is 4 other people in front of him that should be stopping the ball getting near him so dont blame it all on murphy i thought he played superb on saturday

Personally I am not a fan of Murphy. He is too flappy. Admittedly, he did litle wrong on saturday but from what I have seen of Dunn he looks like a far better prospect.

Ah short term memory loss, completely forgot about the Southampton 4th. In a way it's forgetful as it was immaterial to the outcome. I think since early uncertainty (re Palace Gate) he's done well and Saturday yes, came for crosses, distribution good and is always very vocal. However (making this balanced), he does always seem most vocal when opposition have just had a chance and either missed or even scored, coming out of his goal to shout at defence and gesture like hes giving the latest betting odds. This is all well and good if he's been communicative during the build up-play and the defence have ignored him, but if he isn't, then it might be something worth working on, being vocal during the game rather than at intervals when the ball is out of play.

And yes! I do remember at one point Green roll the ball down to take a static goal kick but the ball was still rolling forward when he took it. But couldn't remember that was the goal kick that led to the goal. Short term memory loss again. What am i replying to?

We have enough inexperienced youngsters in the team without adding another one - if Murphy was the reason for our defeats then fine but to drop a player because he's doing well but the other guy might be a little better based on a couple of cameo appearances and the fact that he's taller will hardly breed confidence and thats hardly high anyway at the moment.

Murphy had a decent game on Saturday, however, for the guy who's asked what he's done wrong in the past 2 months (was that period chosen to make sure it avoids the Crystal Palace nightmare?)

In this month alone we have let 9 goals in, and we have gone 6 games without keeping a clean sheet, the goalkeeper has to take some responsibility for that

Southamptons 4th goal was his error, their third goal, could arguably be blamed to him as some could say he should have come out to claim the cross (i would say it was a brilliant ball from Fox though)

Personally I dont think Dunn would do any better. Murphy is an Okay keeper at this level, if he was any better he wouldnt be here.

We were extremely lucky to have Westwood, who always seemed to make at least one blinding save per game, and we seem to expect any keeper that replaces him to do the same

I have said this 60 times on here,
If you seen Dunn pre season you would never put him first! Woeful against Nuneaton!

Yes. Because i know how fickle some people on here are, and will automically use that game as 'concrete evidence' as to why he should be dropped. Fans take a dislike to certain players for reasons known only to themsleves, and no matter how well they play, will never have a good game from their eyes (notably David Bell, however im not suggesting he often has good games!). I wanted to eliminate that game to get feedback from all post games, where i think although obviously not perfect, hes hardly done anything to warrant being replaced.

murphy was wobbly at the start but has played very well in last 2months imo

his catching was brilliant vs whu

one goal dfeflected past him and the other was a fluke

Agreed, and I saw he once for Northampton and he was not greart. This argument is illogical. We had Westwood last season and would still have been relegated if we did not have Marlon King so we really do not have an issue with the goalkeeper. It will not alter results and I cannot really see why someone wants one of the more consistent performers replaced. If you had money to buy 4 new players would one of the be a goalkeeper? No because that position will not massively change results as we have a competent performer already.

What exactly, in say the past 2 months, has Murphy done wrong?
Come on, im expecting a list of about 10 things
To be fair, he was at fault against Palace at Selhurst. However, I still think he is a decent keeper at this level.

We were spoilt with Westwood for 3 years.

Some sanity! At last! ;)

Then I would question what exactly you have seen of Dunn? Just the 2 sub appearances for us at a guess? Nothing during his Northampton days or during pre-season?

He is a prospect, nothing more. Would you want Danny Ireland in? Has Murphy been that bad?? He has made the odd mistake, thats all. I notice a few mentioning Palace & its a fair point but you all conveniently overlook his good performances, ie @ Leeds where he kept us in the game almost single handedly.

The knee-jerk reactions amongst football fans are astonishing at times.

Surely is IS now time to swap our goal keepers. Murphy has made some great saves but I don't feel he inspires confidence in the defence.

Maybe the defenders shielding it back to hom should do just that ,instead of letting some lightwieght intervene before its got to Murphy,he can't come out of his box to pick it up ,he should keep the jersey although he has dropped a little since his WHU performance.

He should have just kicked it away; he is every bit as culpable as Wood for that penalty. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
