NEWS: CCFC Statement

Posted on: Mon 28 Mar 2011
COVENTRY City FC today announced that Ray Ranson will take up the role of Football Consultant and that director Ken Dulieu has become Chairman.
He has been Executive Chairman of Coventry City FC since SISU took control of the club in December 2007 and will now assist Ken Dulieu on football matters.

Dulieu, who joined the board in November 2010, is a former Chairman of Southampton FC. He has considerable experience in football and is a respected name in both football and business circles.
Born in London, he has a strong track record in business including starting and building a security group which was subsequently floated on the London Stock Exchange, as well as being instrumental in bringing two other diverse businesses to the market.

Ken resides in Portugal but makes frequent trips to the UK and will share an office with the new Chief Executive Officer at the Ricoh Arena.

Dulieu commented: "I am delighted to be invited to become Chairman of Coventry City, a club which has a proud pedigree in football with an excellent stadium and loyal fan base.

"We are delighted that Ray has elected to focus all his energies and considerable football experience as football consultant to help ensure that we retain our Championship status.

"Ray and I have an excellent personal relationship and we very much complement each other in our respective working roles within the Club and I look forward to working with him in the future.
"On behalf of the board, I would like to thank him for all his efforts and hard work as the club's Chairman over the past three years and more.

"We now move into a new chapter for the club with the first priority being results on the field in line with our objective off the field to achieve financial stability and create a platform upon which to build for the future," he added.

Ray Ranson said: "As most people within the club and in the football world generally have been aware my role as Executive Chairman of Coventry City FC over the past three years has been essentially focused on the football side of the business.

"Coventry City is now entering a new phase where the commercial side of the company will need dedicated focus under a new Chairman.

"As my former role as Executive Chairman has now been split to pave the way for a new future for the club, I am more than happy to assist the new Chairman and Board as well as the football management team to get our results back on track."

It doesn't seem to mention Ranson's new role only being until the end of the season like the initial reports suggested, is that still the case?

Little confused about this statement...

Way i see this statement is "Oh, Rays gone.. kinda.. well not really, but he isn't chairman anymore. By the way, we've a new one", is it just me who thinks that? :/

So much for investment or any breaking news.

Unbelievable...this club is so inept. A statement that says "blah blah blah" nothing new at all. They really are a bunch of completely useless flacid pricks.

This isn't the statement, clearly. We've got about 5 more pre-ambles before the REAL statement, which is exactly which shade of blue Puma are using.

Reporter: "What colour is the new kit?"
CCFC Board: "Sky Blue. That's it, thanks for coming."

I'm just happy I shelved my original plans to get up at midnight and hit f5 on the official page until it appeared.

Few, thank god that's cleared things up!

Seriously is there anything in that statement none of us knew already?

We have a new chairman as a result of Ray putting together his own consortium. He cannot remain as Chairman and act in SISUs best interest`s if he is acting on his own venture.
Dulieu is only there in the interim. He played the same role at Shithampton. He will protect SISU`s interests for the next 3 months.

Ray is staying in the background to protect his own investment. That is why it has taken 5 days to resolve. Ray will also have asked for, and I think they have agreed upon, an exclusivity period to finalise his offer with Gary Hoffmans support.

bawtryneal: Is that supposition or do you actually have some private information? If the latter, tell us more:pimp:

to me this statement says to me ranson is leaving, he does care about the club but does not have a choice but to leave, and they have put him as football consultant to stop people moaning how he has walked away completely. as they said he wont be at the ricoh he will be available for the new chairmen to ring and get advice. still no news on management situation? still no honesty about finances or possible administration.

singers.......... a bit of both. Also, happen to know a lot about acquisitions and the legal side of share buy outs.

Skyblue army88......... you are 100% wrong. The complete opposite is true.

I hope Wednesday will have an explanation of exactly how committed SISU are to continued investment and what exactly is the RR role and where does that put him in terms of owning 20% of the SISU share?

A CEO is a good thing but why do we appoint an outsider in Deleiu as chairman exactly? (a former Southampton chairman - where did he exactly take them?) Curiously of course he was the chairman that failed to convince RR/SISU to invest in Southampton up to the last hour before RR/SISU picked CCFC?

None of these shenanigans instil any confidence for the fans. Local board directors, committees/associate directors advisory group - the fans need more transparency yes but all these smoke and mirrors stuff just seems to be confusing and a whole lot of sound bytes.
Talk of lawyers pouring over documents and legal stances only alienates fans further from what they want to hear. Fans predominantly are not business people they just want to know what we are doing and how we are going to do it. So all I can see still is a continued lack of understanding between the club and the supporters.

Wednesday needs a whole lot of clarity. I hope the media are tough and ask the right questions: Investment: what is SISU's financial commitment going to be? Why then do we seek new investors as announced and for what purpose? Are SISU's interest short, medium or long term? Intentions :Will SISU buy the stadium interest and when?...or is that for new investors? Who is in charge and can sign the cheque book? and when do we get a new manager! What funds will be available for new players next season and will new contracts be offered to players we have at the club already that we need to keep?

It seems there is a lot going on behind the scenes that we know nothing about. I hope this is manoeuvering to allow Ranson and Hoffman to put a bid together.
SISU would then be able to say they had an offer "too good to refuse" and make the exit we all want with nobody losing face.

If not, I fear for the future after reading the weasel words in the statement. SISU have been here 3 years, have they only just realised that football clubs are judged by what happens on the pitch not in the boardroom ? Feel sorry for anyone who has money invested with them !

Football is like no other business, I think the penny has finally dropped with SISU and they want out

It is basically saying:

1. Ranson has gone (but will offer some cover because the other Portugal guy is kinda part-time)
2. They cant be bothered to put a 'proper' full-time CEO in because they really arent that interested in building the club-- they just wanna get the hell out.

Expect some woolly business speak nonsense on weds -- which tries to cover up 1 and 2 above...

This sounds WAY too optimistic, up there with the "Hoffman spotted in China securing funds!" speculation. Please do tell more if it's true and not just a hunch. It doesn't fit in with the "making the club self-sustainable" line for a start. If Ranson was coming back, he'll already know all about the financial mess.

Paxman 2. The answers to your questions I predict:
Investment: what is SISU's financial commitment going to be?
A. SISU are committed to the long term and nothing has changed.
Why then do we seek new investors as announced and for what purpose?
A. SISU are seeking new investors to increase revenue streams blah, blah, blah
Are SISU's interest short, medium or long term?
A. I refer the questioner to answer 1.
Intentions :Will SISU buy the stadium interest and when?
A. SISU continue with the long term aim of reducing the debt and the purchase of the stadium remains a realistic long term objective.
...or is that for new investors?
A. I refer the questioner to answer 1.
Who is in charge and can sign the cheque book?
A. The new chairman.
and when do we get a new manager!
A. The board will begin the process of appointing a new manager in due course.
What funds will be available for new players next season and will new contracts be offered to players we have at the club already that we need to keep?
A. The board will discuss all matters about the playing staff in due course. We are not a selling club and will seek to retain our best players.

BLAH, BLAH, DRIVEL, BLAH.
