£5 mil? Bit steep maybe? And is he COH 2.0 as some are suggesting? You’d think other teams would have just bought Rudoni rather than O’Hare if so? At least he’s over 6ft I suppose.
I suspect COH might go but he can play as an 8 and Robins has praised him in that role before. They could play in the same team if COH does decide to sign his deal.

You always look for the negatives, unless they’re foreign

True, I do usually think foreign players are better, but not because they’re foreign, but because the probability of any given British player being better than any given non-British player is low. There are so many countries out there that the chance of a British being the best fit at the price is slim.

I also think there’s a massive bias with fans towards players from British leagues. People recognise the name and remember how good/bad they are when we played them and make an opinion based on that. There’s so many players out there, and sometimes at a fraction of the cost, it just seems like a no-brainer to me to search the European markets, provided that our recruitment have done their homework well.

charshalton isn't south london but boroughs like croydon which don't meet the thames are south london
Croydon is a bit of a mix though isn't it? It's got the inner bit in the north where Selhurst Park is, but the southern part is Surrey really.

Another rule of thumb is the postcode, if it isn't SW or SE it ain't in.. Central Croydon is CR iirc.

This is bollocks. I've talked about what I think of the Prem but our 2nd division is around maybe 7th best league in terms of quality in the world. If someone is performing well in The Championship they are already performing at a high level. Even our 3rd division is of higher quality than some European top divisions (overall), again if someone is performing well there, they should be looked at.

What you’re saying is kinda true but doesn’t account for how much easier it is for us to scout and sign domestic players.

It’s unlikely to be feasible for us to have the scouting network in place to bring in the volume of players we need to recruit.

£5m for a L1 player again though…

cant help but feel we could have spent £35m a bit more efficiently.
He’s a Championship player and a stand out player for Huddersfield last season.

Good signing and pleasantly surprised it was announced!

Jury is out for me, I’m half convinced we’re signing him cause he’s played well against us a couple of times

£5m is a lot of money and I hope this isn’t our ‘marquee’ signing

We won't have signed him because he played well against us.

We don't know the fee.

Not sure what you'd class as marquee or if we need that but the central midfielder we bring in will likely be the closest thing to that.

It’s not about how well your league is doing as a whole, it’s about picking the best individual players you can to form a team. To restrict yourself to only English leagues is absolutely ridiculous, and to say that these are the best leagues, therefore the best players lie in the them is ridiculous.

Look at the players we bought from Europe last season, Sakamoto, Van Ewijk, Haji, all of them have been revolutionary in the team. Look at the players we bought from the championship or below last season JDS, Collins, Kitching, Lati, it’s night and day (bar Thomas).

We should be picking the absolute best gems we can find rather than only plundering Rotherham or Bolton, makes no sense to me.

Collins, Kitching and Thomas didn't join from Championship teams.

Very true, and that’s a fair argument, can fully see that it requires a lot of time and money to scout around the world. I hope that Rudoni is just one of many this window and if he does a good job then that’s a great bit of recruiting. A new LB, CDM, ST and GK and I think we’re about there.

I assume the 5 mill is once all add ons are included? 2-3 mill up front. Seems like decent business for a highly rated, young championship player, looking forward to seeing what he's like.

If Browne comes in with another quality midfielder, our midfield will be within the top 6 of the division.

Looking like a good season is on the horizon.

We aren't restricting ourselves to English leagues! You've literally just listed a bunch of players that proves that's exactly not what we're doing!
We're looking at all leagues and deciding what is the best option for us whether that be Belgian League, Norwegian League, Championship, League One, etc...

😂😂 I just mean the probability of finding the perfect player for a good price is lower in the championship/league 1 compared to European markets, purely because of the fact you’ve got like 10+ leagues to pick from rather than 2.

Hand picking the cream of the crop from around the world will surely lead to better, and maybe cheaper, players than if we only used the the championship and league 1. Basically more choices should mean better players.

You're alright, as Rudoni has an Italian-American background that makes him 30% more likely to be better than any British player. It does however increase the probability of dietry issues as he loves a Goodfellas microwaveable pizza, which is eaten by him 43% more than a British player would eat them, and even worse, 66% more than a non British player.

But we do shop abroad and you're not the only person who enjoys a fancy foreign signing who we can all dream is the next Ronaldo, but the obsession is very strange.

But I thought you were just saying how good our English leagues are and that means we should mainly be looking at players from those leagues?

We haven’t just looked at English leagues and that’s my point, last season when we didn’t sign players from championship/league 1 they turned out to be brilliant, and when we did sign a player from championship/league 1 they turned out to be very meh. I don’t think Rudoni is a bad signing, I think maybe £5 mil is a bit steep (if it is £5 mil) but I think he’s alright. I just wonder what £5 mil would have gotten us in Europe, and my assumption is we would have gotten someone maybe slightly better (just my feeling anyway, nothing concrete to back that up).

Well I’m glad I’m alright at least, even if no one gets my point about probabilities 😂

Unfortunately I think you're on alright poster but on this subject you've gone so weird you're almost coming off as a troll account.
Go on a scouting mission to Venezuela and get on the phone to Robins if you're that bothered.

Okay maybe it is becoming an obsession, fair enough 😂 but I do genuinely think our money goes a longer way in Europe than it does over here and there’s just way more choice.

I too think you usually make some good points, which is why I didn’t expect wake up expecting to be in a debate with you 😂 Maybe I’ve took it too far I don’t know, I just find there’s a lot of people on here that really rate players in the championship that they’ve heard of, when I sort of think these players aren’t that amazing, like they’re okay but they’re not as good as everyone makes out imo.

Yeh I agree to an extent, I always wanted us to look abroad too. But the point is, we are doing that. So if they buy someone from league 1 you can be sure they've assessed the options in our price range abroad and decided that actually, said league 1 player, is preferable.
