If he gets any boos or jeers, they should be totally drowned out by everyone else roundly clapping.

In an ideal world, we should just let him be just another player, but I would think he will indeed gets lots of stick, so if that's the case, it needs to be shouted down.

%wise we know there are loads of players living a lie. Let’s hope this encourages people to just be who they are….

Genius from the lad. Every chance his career will fizzle out into nothing - this will ensure his name is always remembered. Not to mention all the promotion and sponsorship deals he’ll get as a result. Bravo.

Saw yesterday that a young Championship player was about to come out. Good on Jake and hopefully every player can now live their life as they want to without being judged. A real positive step forward. Found myself sort of hoping it was one of ours so that we could all vociferously support him

Wish him the best. Onus on football authorities and clubs to create an environment in which he can thrive - much as they have tried to do with taking the knee and banning fans for racist behaviour.

Good for him, the fact its taken until 2022 for professional footballer in the UK to come out as gay shows what a huge decision he's made.

I hope if he plays against us next season that all fans roundly applaud and show him support.

Good on him. As has been mentioned hope he doesn't get any abuse and if any sadly occurs it gets shouted out with calls of support. Then maybe one day he can get on with just being a footballer.

Fashanu was professional in 1990 was he not? At least Daniels will not face the bullying from his own manager that the former did anyway.

Fashanu rammed me from behind as I’ve said before. His brother was more unkind than his manager

The way he was treated in general contributed a fair bit to it taking over 30 years before someone else came out

He only was at forest for a year wasn’t he? I lived in Nottingham for his entire time and I honestly can’t recall any reference at the time about his sexuality.

When his chauffeur drove into our car late one night he looked a bit like huggy bear but no one really thought he was gay. Clough even then was chronically drunk most of the time and couldn’t deal with eccentricity

He actually was really popular at notts county and I went to meadow lane a lot - he was seen as a big signing and Jimmy Sirrell loved him as a player

Clough was not enlightened about it.

Alcoholic or not Clough’s behaviour couldn’t have helped and it seems he generally had a very difficult time of it. Black and openly gay in 1990 he didn’t stand much chance.

This Blackpool player stands a much better chance but will likely still get a few knuckle draggers
