Not a massive surprise really. Pearson signed him before. I guess the longer it went on the less likely he would sign for us. He did a great job whilst here and I wish him the best except for when he plays against us. Interesting to see who Robins brings into that roll now.

Looks like White is going to Arsenal which could well mean Ostigard is staying at Brighton as there may be a place for him?

Never really got the hype on Matty James, certainly better players out there, which I trust MR and CB have identified.

Wish him all the best for his role in our survival but we move on.

Yep it’s all over the usual media outlets I would rather Walsh over him,it’s the market we are in competing with teams
With bigger budgets etc

Relieved about this actually. He was decent, but i I would imagine we would of blown a lot of budget in getting him in permanently and I think we have more pressing areas of the team to cover, + I like the look of Sheaf, Kelly & Eccles in those positions already, perhaps grab a young up & coming midfielder from League 2 to compete there.

Although very possible, its not a fact its an opinion and like I said, thank him for his efforts in keeping us up but in my opinion there is better options out there.

Quality player but Robins will somehow find an improvement

We were never going to compete wage wise against most of the teams in this league. No surprise he's gone somewhere else.

You would be the first to moan if we paid £20k a week on a three year contract & he injured his knee and was out for the season.
Trust MR to do the best for the club with the money available

James is a far superior player to Walsh.

Money talks and we should stop listening to these false statements from players that say they would like to stay or dropping silly hints on social media. There is very little loyalty in the game as its all about getting the right pay deal.

just hope we dont have a season like under Mowbray now where we cant get any of our first or scond choice in because we cant compete and then sighn any old crap to make up the numbers

Surly Robins must have known there was a good chance he would miss out on him right? We must have a plan B and that doesn’t mean it’s a worse player just means we identified someone else just in case?

I liked James, but if there was a choice, I would much sooner have Walsh.

All about opinions. If I had to pick the player who contributed most to our promotion then it would be Walsh. It was a league below and he has missed a year but I think he is such a good player he would still be a major influence for us in the Championship.
If I had to pick between Kelly and James, I would pick Kelly, not because he is the better footballer but because of the effect he has in organising and galvanising the team (as well as being a tidy player in his own right).

And if I had to pick a player who was successful and helped us stay up at a higher level, it’d be James.
Kelly over James - wow - luckily you’re not the manager.

Permanent? Walsh every day for the value increasing (plus I like watching him more).

Also we’ve got Sheaf/Kelly and will almost certainly sell Hamer and Walsh fits that role better IMO.

But for his injuries James would be playing in the Premier League. Walsh hasn't yet convinced at Championship level.

James was a great short term loan signing and we might well have gone down without him.

Having said that given his age, injury record and reported wages I am glad we haven't given him a three year contract.

Thanks and move on.

Matty James: Bristol City sign midfielder and Danny Simpson agrees new deal

Bristol City sign Leicester midfielder Matty James and agree a new one-year deal with full-back Danny Simpson.
www.bbc.co.uk

Linky as proof...per bbc sport.

Shame, as he's a v.good player...however maybe not good enough to blow your budget on, with his injury record.
In truth, we were probably never going to get him based on what a club like Bristol could pay him.

It’s probably more the opportunity to work with Pearson again.

It’s the three year contract on big money he will say all the great to work with Pearson again etc but it’s all about the cash.

Disagree, Pearson will have been a big factor in him going there.

Didn't someone on here say a while back that theyd heard James wasn't too happy that we'd offered a 2 year deal vs a 3 year elsewhere? I may have imagined this.

The biggest issue will be the three year contract players nowadays know that a manager might only last weeks, for a 29 year old very injury prone player to get a three year deal is a dream.
