Allen is still really underrated imo.
Along with Eccles and Torp though, we really need a Sheaf type player in the midfield alongside them to compliment their style of play

He's at his most effective when allowed to break the lines. I was sort of hoping that we'd play like that this season, with a holding player (a 6 if you like) and two players going box-to-box (two 8s if you like) as I think he could do a job as one of those number 8s.

He might have played a couple of Checkatrade games from memory in League 2 but was definitely League 1 he made a couple of appearances with Drysdale
Yeah, I might’ve been getting mixed up. I think Eccles made his debut vs Southend. Which id thought was League 2 but was at St Andrews, which was league 1.

Eccles made his debut vs Cheltenham in the JPT in the 18/19 season, 13 mins off the bench vs Chesterfield in a 2-0 loss, his only appearance that season. He played the full 90 mins of all 4 JPT games in the 19/20 season but only made 3 league appearances.

Allen signed in the summer prior to the 19/20 season but didn't make an appearance until the 23rd December 2019.

Wilson signed the same summer, only made 3 appearances behind Marosi, all in cup competitions.

That's our 3 last men standing from the League One winning season!

I like him as back up to our options in behind the strikers. Personally don't think he's good enough lying in a deeper role. Only my opinion don't shoot me. Love his energy and being a pest chasing around, certainly added value over his time, but think compared to lots of the squad he's now limited.

Always appreciated Allen's application and work rate but let's be honest , he's now our 6th best midfielder
Sheaf, Rudoni, Eccles , Torp and Palmer are all far better
Another signing in this area is a must and will mean he's even further down the pecking order

Think it’s difficult to say Torp and Palmer are far better as they are very different to Allen.

Torp we’ve seen in glimpses he could end up being better than Allen.

Palmer is a great player, but will never ever be able to match the athleticism and fitness Allen has, which is one of the most important contributions a player can make in the Championship.

By far the most frustrating player to watch. Like watching a kid chase shadows all game. Watching him bouncing off fully grown opposition, endlessly running from five yards from one opponent to five yards from another. All the finishing power of an HS2 planner and all the stopping power of a traffic cone.

Runs about tho. Give him that.

Think his shooting technique is pretty good! Unfortunately he’s now being asked to play in deeper positions which don’t suit him. He’s best at arriving late in the box.

I can’t see many opposition coaches doing a team talk saying “how are we going to counter the threat of Jamie Allen” at this level.

But fair play, he was good when we were L1 and can buzz about to limit the time opposition players have on the ball. When we played a more of a close pass and move game he was suited to that and did well. Also, with Hamer in the team opposition midfielders were more likely to double up on him (Hamer) leaving Allen a bit more space.

If a League 1 club comes in with a 6 figure bid we’d be well to take it. We’ve moved on and his game time will be limited from now on here.
