I have no idea why you keep blathering on. It’s good value if it works as it’s a drop in the ocean - we have released Kane and Waghorn and you would assume they are costing more than the two loans

The fact we currently have zero players at all we can even use off the bench tells me we are in some trouble - our wage bill will be hugely reduced in June when so we have more than enough opportunity to start again

You of course have long touted the view Gyokeres should be moved on - given he accounts for half our pathetic goal tally thats a plan even Baldrick would find less than cunning
Clearly squad depth is a problem - right now the first team squad with Gyokeres is a ramshackle hut with a Lamborghini parked out front. Fair play if you think we can afford to keep it - I enjoy driving it as much as the next person - but unless we can come up with another plan to raise cash then it’s not going to be a fun couple of years before we end up losing it anyway.

I agree with you on Gyokeres.

Perfectly put 👏

O’Hare was free.

Your move.

And had been gently blooded in the league below before joining permanently.

If he comes in and scores 5 goals and gets a few assists between now and the end of the season then it’s £250k (hypothetically) well spent at this level. If he flops then you can bring it up every other day ala Waghorn 😉

There have been a few older signings we’ve (and other clubs) made in this league that have worked. If it’s not to the detriment of signing a younger ready to go first teamer theoretically at the level them I’m not sure why the fans should be bothered. If the new owner wants to spunk it then why would we complain….

Bidwell was a January signing and was apparently free (correct me if I’m wrong) and was 27/28 not 31.

What January has to do with the point of spooging money on 31 year olds I don’t know.

Not many out of contract players in Jan really. Bidwell I think had six months left and had been told he could leave for nothing.

So what we are saying is that Swansea let an out of favour player go, for nothing, in January.

Now…. About Paterson…. where is he and is he in favour?

I'd like Patterson, but you would like to think you could get him on a free, or a loan with a buy option.
If he's "dead wood" why should there be a fee, we just got rid of some of ours?

100%

If he is costing them £10k week or whatever and not in their plans then they want him off the books, surely.

He’s 31. Very unlikely that there is a big queue of clubs wanting to pay a fee.

You confuse me. Is committing a 7 figure sum of money to this player a good idea or not?

I’m clearly being sarcastic and referencing offering deals to other players who’ve zero proven ability at this level

If he has and the manager and Viveash wants him frankly we just get him

As I said on a different thread I would have been delighted to sign him at any point in the last 10 years. I have some doubts over his current form and apparent attitude (essentially going on strike last January for an improved contract) but if he’s coming here there are some major positives.

1) the £400k comes from where? A couple of clown walls and then it gets repeated as fact.

2) we’ve picked up players with “attitude” issues before who have been model pros with us - and even Kasey Palmer had a reputation didn’t he?

3) if we sign him I don’t want him to be another loan. That would take us to 5 and he wouldn’t be able to play against Swansea (where he might be keen to make a point).

4) we are v v thin and need both experience and quality. He has both. And I’m pretty certain after watching today’s performance had he been on the pitch at certain points together we might have ended up actually shooting from some pretty promising positions.

Really surprised at some of the backlash. £400k really is quite trivial, especially when MR notes we can do something (paraphrasing) this window, so we have “something” available.

He is an experienced Championship player, capable of being a match winner and extra motivated as he’s a Cov kid and fan.

Attitude stuff isn’t fair or accurate.

But as it stands, there’s still nothing more than expressions of interest from both sides.

Same for another we’ve been linked with too.

As long as we get an experienced CB in as well, then happy enough to spend 250k+ on Patterson. Can’t imagine there’s many better choices with decent championship experience for same/less than that

Honesty think championship experience is overrated. We’ve just shipped out two of the players in our squad with some of the most experience. Our best players are ones that have come with a career ahead of them and a name to make. And McFadzean, who lets be honest is an anomaly.

That’s what made me laugh with the Huddersfield manager talking about Waghorn. “Knowledge of the league”. It’s worth absolutely fuck all.

We’ve also signed a lot of players who fit that bill who haven’t been anywhere near good enough at this level. Any player is a gamble but looking at our squad at the moment, Id rather go for a Patterson than 2-3 hilsner/kasteneers as he’s more likely to be able to play this season which is what we need. If there’s some great up and coming AM available from L1 available at that price, great, but I reckon thats unlikely.

I'm sure I read or heard that MR said he needs players in this window who can hit the ground running and do not need ages to either get match fit or get up to the level required.

I would guess this explains Patterson coming in.

Palmer with his fitness, can not play every game this season and within the squad, we have no one else to fill the role.

He might be a hit or not, but we need someone urgently. So who can we get that is better who has the track record to be of Championship quality and is fit?

Every transfer is a gamble as is this. If the funds are available then I don't see why we don't sign him.

He is 31, how old was Wise (my counter to Wags)? Not all players are washed up at 31.

I don't think he was a predominantly quick player when younger so his age might not take so much from his game.

With lots of players, it's how quickly the mind works. Waghorn seemed ok till Covid, same as Moore (has Covid affected their concentration and long-term fitness levels?

Decent player but given the fact that (realistically) the play offs are unlikely this season at 31 he doesn't fit the club's recruitment profile ( as often stated by M.R.)..free transfer yes short term contract, transfer fee? not wise imo.
Not that it's relevant but he's Coventry born but he's a Liverpool fan.

Wonder what the add ons are? 75k if in his first interview he says it was a no brainer and he didn’t want to go anywhere else as soon as he knew his hometown club were interested. Another 75k if he kisses the badge after his first goal.

I can guarantee that the fee will be undisclosed so if he comes we can carry on discussing how much vfm we got for ever and a day without anyone ever being able to prove us wrong.

He played against us for Swansea recently, and he looked decent enough, quick and lively. He would fit it well here, plus the fact he supports the club and will be playing for a manager who openly rates him, is a win win in my opinion.

I think we'd all prefer to bring in players a little younger for development. That said, I'd be relatively happy going into next year in the Championship with O'Hare, Palmer, Paterson & Allen as attacking midfield options.

Hmm. I dunno. Allen is spectacularly ineffective at AM, Paterson seems to have lost it, O’Hare who knows when he’s back or what he’ll be like and Palmer still getting fitness. AM is a position younger who layers tend to do well at, Id rather wait for Burnley to go up and see if we could get Twine or something. But I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

I think I'd have to disagree with this.

I would say Robins has always stated the need to recruit a mix of young development players (Hyam, O'Hare, Sheaf etc) and more experienced players (Fadz, Waghorn, Bidwell etc).

The problem with signing experienced players is we don't have the budget to sign players at their peak, so when we're signing players with experience they're often on a downward trajectory and it's a bit of a punt - Waghorn the prime example.
