long way home

Im sure the recalling of Burroughs and Howley is down to FL wanting to see if either can make a squad. Because if he feels they are ok to be back ups for a certain area of the field then the targets and positions of those he goes after could change.

And although im not sure what they are like now both have played for us in the championship and in all honesty never let the team down. Its just if FL thinks they are capable now and if he sees them as being part of his squad he builds to go into next season wanting to compete at the top end of the league.

Samuel Rak-Sakyi, Harvey Vale, James McConnell, S Thomas, Tyler Morton, Lewis O Brian, H Toffolo and Liam Lindsay are names i have seen and would be happy with 2 or 3 of these being brought in. Another player i liked but not sure if he could get back to the level is Matty Longstaff if injuries are behind him would be worth a look.
Harvey Vale I was told to look out for. It makes sense tbh, won't cost us anything, very versatile which suits managers that like to switch up the formation/system and being British his value will always be inflated.

If this signing did actually happen, it would be decent but I wouldn't go further than decent tbh, hence why I can see this happening 😂

If we are to sign players for big money, this will be done in the summer. You might find 1 or 2 are moved on and brought in during January, for example if we were to spend £5 million on a midfielder, this will happen in the summer.

I'm still convinced our centre backs are not good enough, but if we play with 5 at the back and spend a good chunk of our budget on someone experienced, this will help Bobby's decision making.

I just don't understand the thinking of a short term loan when we aren't challenging the play offs.

Struggling to see the benefit to the club.

You do know it's three points for a win, put a winning run together and you can soon shoot up the league.

Test the waters for next year? Build good ties with Chelsea to enable more loans. Or just because we lack some depth there and could do with it after loaning out Kai
In that case why even loan Kai out, play him if required.

Or sign some permanent midfielders and give them half a season to settle in.

The Chelsea link is a fair point but that means he is required to play when available which is what Austin alluded with regards to the man city loans.

I'm not being negative, I'm trying to understand the clubs transfer strategy.

We need Andrews playing games to get even close to ready for our team. same as any loans we might get with their own teams. I dont see the point of us signing permanent players in January. The season is realistically going to peter out in mid table. We need cover, especially with Sheaf being injured, and this offers a short term solution.

Again on the he has to play. That isn’t always the case.

For example when Doyle came, Man City thought he would get game time but wouldn’t start every game and wanted him to have experience around a first team.

I don’t generally see Chelsea mandating he has to start games on his first ever loan. Think they will just want him around the first team and to get minutes.

Based on Jimmys post the hope was to get another CM and a RB so it might not just be this lad coming in. But regardless, the reason you’ll see deals like this in Jan is that it’s a sellers market and we might not have the money to go after perm targets (so better to stop gap then waste money on a less than ideal target).

I just hope we can get a creative midfielder in to unlock the forward line when they are all fit. It can even be at the expense of Sheaf so they can try and get him fit for next season, if hes going to extend his contract of course. I think we are all desperate to see a player that can break the lines and run at defenders or spray a pass, truth be told we were lucky to have the creative types in midfield we had.

Not sure about the rumour sites etc, honestly stopped reading all of um tbh. I genuinely use this forum for all of our rumours, I would say the members in this forum do a good job at regulating the rumours, anyone that is stating we are signing this player or that player and it doesn't have any weight behind it, they get stick from the members, which is a good way of keeping alot of Billy bullshitters away from posting nonsense transfer stuff.

That being said someone I know did say to me on Friday, keep an eye on Harvey Vale, Sunderland and Covrentry, specifically Lampard were eyeing up the signing.
Il be honest aswell, it sounds very much like a realistic signing, he can play numerous roles, he's young and tbh he's just decent. He isn't going to be a brilliant signing, but it's the type of player our club like bringing in.

I wouldn't be surprised if this happened, either way he will end up somewhere in the Championship, If we missed out on him, to me QPR, Millwall being on the doorstep from where the lad is currently, could be likely options for him.

Surely that's the reason not to sign loans, it's just dead money with no aim.

Loans in this scenario do not make sense unless they are going to get us into the play offs or be the difference between relegation and staying up, I'm not bothered if Rak Sakyi means we finish 13th instead of 17th.

The only thing is for is Kings ego as Lampard has to be viewed a successful appointment for King.

So he doesn’t bring in loans = bad, he brings in a loan = bad.

Why would anyone own a football club? 🤣
You’re not looking at the bigger picture, it’s clear what’s needed and all we’re being linked with is a kid (who may be brilliant) from Chelsea on loan for 6 months. If we add some experience in cm and at cb then the season can be saved

We don’t leak now though.

I get the bigger picture and if it ends up being Lati for Rek than it’s a bad window. But you’ve got to let them finish before we judge.

Based on the two ITKs and Gimoc, we know the club is trying to sort deals like Thomas and as such we can assume that the CM and RB talks are taking place and that an experienced CB is targeted.
