Yes except we spent millions more in the summer so the narrative doesn't quite follow. Seems to be more that he's willing to spend as much as possible from transfers and commercials without having to put much in himself.

Exactly. We spent 13 million in the summer, with £0.00p income from player sales

Look at what's been spent. Over 45 million on players. Millions on Ryton, millions in upgrading the staffing, money spent on other things to bring us up to championship standard

The money we had from Vik and Hamer has gone. Doug to his credit is apparently funding the operating losses, but that isn't funding transfers, hence the external investment he has been after

Complete get this and think it’s responsible. Think he’s finding out the cost of running a championship club.

Would imagine the money tree will get restocked in the summer so should go again.

This is why I don’t get people having a go at king. Yeah, he’s made mistakes but he’s spent big money on transfers (mostly generated from sales) and is covering the losses.

Fans were never building in the additional wages when they wanted a bigger squad/king to spend all the Vik and Hamer cash*. Sisu would’ve shipped out players for lower than market rate by now.

The positive is we have a number of assets now that are worth a few quid so barring injuries, these are more timing/cash flow challenges, that King appears willing to cover for now.

*also see the whole thread about posters wanting more and more signings

So the article in December was clearly bollocks. Whatever we bring in goes on the squad and infrastructure but because King is a millionaire not a billionaire if he tries funding much himself he'll go bust.

It's nothing new or particularly sinister, but the way we have pissed through a once in a generation transfer windfall to end up with our worst performing team since arriving in this league would give any owner pause for thought. He's been had

Also have to think about where we’d be had all the corporate packages not been raised price wise like they were (I acknowledge they lost some punters ) and the improvement in the merch on offer - I think as fans we’re doing our bit financially at the tills and tickets etc.

Wouldn’t be surprised if there were uplifts in ST prices next season.

Not sure what our options were with the money we invested ….

The play off team had 3 tiers of player

superstar … Vik, Hamer ( possibly COH )
Loans …. McNally, Doyle, BNC,
Solid pros getting too old: Godden, Dabo, Kelly, Fadz

we sold tier 1 and had to also replace tier 2 and start the process of replacing tier 3 …..

Exactly. We can complain that there’s gaps in the team/squad but nobody can say the cash has been frittered away until we see how players do over their contracts here (not just first 20 games) and what we end up getting for them

Im a fan! I should not be in charge of the club I would make terrible decisions. I also don’t know Doug’s financial situation.

But breaking our transfer records and throwing £4m here and £4m there and leaving us no contingency was nuts.

The whole 5-year target pointed at Doug not being here for the long-term.

If we got to the Prem or close enough within the timeframe he could make a profit. Problem is I don’t think he’s got good enough people in to ensure that happens or lets them do their job (managerial decision).

We’ve got a big summer coming up where we’re likely to have similar funds that we got in Summer 23.

I imagine if next season we get a repeat of this season he’ll actively put us up for sale.

OMG, am I advocating for King shock. Surely, unless Top Deck Doug is completely useless, he will have staggered the deals over different financial years, added on achievements, promotions etc to reach the full fee.
I get the outgoings will have same provisos, but Vik's money has been reported as pretty much paid, apart from the sell-on fee.
Think business done this window (if any) will indicate where we are, Think results on the pitch up to the window will drive matters.
Either way, last day deals can save or cost more money, depending on the circumstances.

Yes. That's bad.

Don't want our players wearing a kit that looks like a tin of Red Bull. Don't want us wearing red. But if we stay Coventry City and our home kit stays some kind of Sky Blue then it depends who it is. Wouldn't like owners that are from certain countries.

But a few billion in the kitty would be nice.

It now seems obvious to me that several players are touted as being sold / bidded for as understandably, DK wants transfers to be self funded but is willing to loan to service debt. Sheaf getting injured was at the worst possible time

Once in a generation transfer windfall.

If they sell MVE, Sheaf and Wright you’re at the same kind of windfall again.

And this time you’re not left with expired loans and old pros

I think in reality everyone was surprised at what we spent and no one was expecting every penny to be spend and certainly not straight away. There was talk of 50% being a reasonable amount to reinvest.

Keane. Hartson. Kirkland.

The difference now is that all the money is being reinvested. Yes it could have been done better, but you only need a couple of high value successes (MVE and Wright) to keep the cycle going

It's seems quite unbelievable that someone with Dougs business acumen would have spent all this money and not bothered to consider the sustainability of our transfer outlay and wages. How on earth can we be just two years from that huge windfall and now scrambling around for money?

It also begs the question, if he isn't willing or able to finance the club himself fully, why on earth did he get involved with the club? Why didn't he try to get external investors as soon as he took over? The most charitable I can be is that he's been very naive when it comes to running the club.

If he left now he would leave the club in a better place and barring Robinsgate, we should be thankful for that.

King out? Where have you seen that?

The biggest problem I see that people have with King is the problem I have with him. That's the way our club is now set up. Either people are clueless, being untruthful to King or he is being untruthful to us. For instance King told us our 'deck' is very fit. Lampard c8mes in and one of his first comments was about how unfit our players were. Then we have Austin. What has he ever done in football? Yet nearly everyone has left the club since King took over but Austin is still here.

This isn't saying in any way King should go. It's saying we need to change the setup. Like this season we all knew we was light in positions yet still brought in another striker we didn't need.

Or is King above being questioned?
