All I will add is that my sister's family were all Baggies STH and they were over the moon when BTA was sold and very surprised that they got anything more than peanuts for him. My guess is that BTA came in as Godden's replacement and then Bassette came along and was considered too good an opportunity to turn down.

This assumes it was a case of either/or. Was there no money for a midfielder or did we just fail to bring one in? At the time we brought BTA a lot on here thought we were desperate for a striker to replace Golden so if anything Bassette was the mistake. Personally I think the club assumed/gambled that Gyokeres and Hamer would move but that is just me speculating.
