Maybe, but idk. I would have thought we would have replaced Simms or Wright with a bigger signing. My guess is that BTA came in as Godden's replacement and then Bassette came along and was considered too good an opportunity to turn down.
All I will add is that my sister's family were all Baggies STH and they were over the moon when BTA was sold and very surprised that they got anything more than peanuts for him. They did say that the way they were set up suited his game ideally but he was very poor at executing the role.

I think it is clear (despite what DK might have said) that we must have been looking for a midfielder in addition to what we had. Robins certainly gave that impression and we were linked with (at least) two. Sometimes things just don't work out.
Maybe thought they’ll get us through to January then add someone if it isnt working, well it def didn’t work 😂

My neighbour is too and had similar comments. I thought he would make a decent replacement for Golden given we weren't paying much for him but hadn't figured on him playing quite so many games for us.

My old boss is a baggies fan and laughed when it came though we’d signed him. Told me he runs around a lot n not much else. Also needed 5 shots to hit the target once! Pretty much an accurate description

Yet he was still Baggies top goal scorer last season what does that tell ya? Fancy going around slagging our players off pathetic to even call yourself a Cov fan

He only got 11 for a side that finished top 6 while being their first choice striker generally. That tells me he’s probably not that clinical.

Surely we wouldn't allow players to leave without having replacements in??...............................OH, wait, we never learn that harsh lesson

This assumes it was a case of either/or. Was there no money for a midfielder or did we just fail to bring one in? At the time we brought BTA a lot on here thought we were desperate for a striker to replace Golden so if anything Bassette was the mistake. Personally I think the club assumed/gambled that Gyokeres and Hamer would move but that is just me speculating.

Agree. I think the club were gambling on Gyokeres moving……and probably still are.

As for midfielders, the club made moves for at least 3 midfielders but in each case, the players turned City down. Or rather, elected to go elsewhere

Yet his shot conversion rate and amount of shots per goal was better than Haji Wright’s last season

He's a left winger not right. We aren't short on the left wing.

He played for us on the right
