I'm astonished how many people are putting forward multiple ideas for signings, and not listing LB as top priority!

Bring in an outstanding guy for that position and half the team's problems would melt away IMO.

(And no I can't suggest who it should be, that's the recruitment team's job).
Recruitment teams job? That's fucked it.

We have two left backs but no hard bitten CDM and flabby centre halves. And it's being suggested we get another left back? Have we not learned from having two left wingers. Priority is defensive midfield and centre back. Left back can wait until summer

We have 4 problem areas. Experienced CB, Midfield, RB Cover and LB. I am in favour of anyone who can improve any of those 4 positions. I appreciate some areas feel more urgent but in January if any of the areas can be strengthen it is only a good thing

If I'm recruitment.

Summer 25 I'm going in for Tom Cairney, offering him a 1 year deal plus 1 year extension possibility.

asap: I'm offering Bidwell 2 year deal and Wilson.
Important characters.

asap: I'm looking to ship out, Jay Dasilva, Kitching,

January: I'm loaning in a Left Back, Centre Back on a 1 year deal.

January: I'm looking at buying a box to box centre midfielder £5 million quid, between 25-28, ready to fucking make an impact, start the search in jan, sign for the summer.

2 permanent deals, 1 £5 million, 1 free.
2 loan signings.

Selling Kitching and Jay try and recuperate 2 million quid.

Sensible suggestions. Sadly can't see us managing to offload JDS and LK for cash in Jan.

Im hoping we have a b2b midfielder ready to go seeing as we missed out in August - will not be happy if we dont address this, again.

I’d not be looking to extend Bidwell & Wilson personally.
Who knows how Bidwell will be upon full fitness return of injury and Wilson isn’t up to scratch so needs to move on

Bidwell will leave at the end of his contract, been a good servant and solid player but we need something a bit more in that area of the pitch and he’s the wrong side of 30 now.

As for JDS, if there was a buyer, I think we’d move on, there probably won’t be for the money he’s on and will have 2 years left on his contract.

A RB is probably higher up Lampard’s Xmas wish list than a LB because we need competition for MVE.

With January being a difficult time to buy then it might be worth recalling Burroughs.

He's hardly playing for Kilmarnock so he might as well come back and hardly play here, and be understudy for the second half of the season.

I suspect in that case he won't be offered a contract extension and that will be the end of his time here.

That should probably tell you he isn’t good enough to make the grade here. To think a lot of people were happy with him being MVE’s understudy is pretty scary to be honest.

Tom Cairney will no doubt be on about 4 x our highest paid player

It's not that scary really is it. He's filled in admirably when called upon. Our loans to Scotland never work I don't know why we insist on it. He played 40 odd games in league 1 last season

He was average last season in L1 and considering the stupid comments about EMC ‘not being good enough’ this season when he was arguably POTS last season says it all.

If our goals are to be at the top end of the league, we need quality players in all positions.

I don't think he really has a future here.

My point was that MVE is obviously first choice RB and will play there every minute that he's fit.

So there is no point in going out and spending on a backup RB at a probably inflated January price for someone who is hardly going to play when we could recall Burroughs to play a few minutes here and there when needed. He played 30 times in L1 last season so he's not a Sunday League player.

At both LB and GK our issue is we’ve got too much dross on long contracts. Wilson and Bidwell might not be first choice to go ability wise but without them freeing up space and wages we likely can’t get what we need in.

Think both Bidwell and Ben are difficult choices.

I think it’s key that we don’t have two senior back up keepers on our books to maximise our wages but from both Lamps and Robins, he’s a big character at the club and we are solely missing experience. Would keep him but only if we move on Collins. If we can’t then I think we have to move him on sadly.

Similarly with Bidwell, think we need better in this role but bidders is another leader. For me as weird as this sounds bidders depends on our Strikers and in particular Haji wright.

Dasilva I think would be better placed in the left wing position as back up for Mason if we don’t have haji playing there but in the middle. If we do that and it works, I’d keep bidders as our lb back up.

He must be feeling right down at the moment all that way just to sit on the bench and freeze your balls off.

Bring him home I say.

For Jan definitely need
CM, CB, RB
- (CM) someone dynamic box to box and can pass a ball
- (CB) experienced head that can actually run and play in a 4 (rules out Coady)
- (RB) someone to come in for Milan when he needs a rest, like now

My suggestions:

(CM)

- Majeed Ashimeru (27) Anderlecht

Would certainly be a punt but watching a few clips on Youtube and looking at his stats could be a good option

- Markus Karlsson (20) Hammarby

Same club we signed Dovin from so might have had a look at him but good passing stats and tackling

- Matty Longstaff (24) Toronto

Good stats in America, a progressive midfielder, if he can produce anything similar to his brother we’d be mint

- Alex Matos (20) Chelsea

Cheeky Lampard link, was at Huddersfield last season and has played almost anywhere on the pitch mainly CM and RW

- Will Smallbone (24) Southampton

Most likely loan but was injured start of year so hasnt has a look in really this year ran the show against us last season both games for Southampton

- Michal Sadílek (25) FC Twente

Out of contract end of season so potential for a cheap steal here, missed most of the season so far injured but starting to build up again, captained his side to a 6-1 loss against PSV, but has an assist in 4 games (143 minutes) previous years been a good CM/CDM in the dutch top flight

- Luke Cundle (22) Wolves

Spent time at Stoke, Plymouth and Swansea in this tier so certainly knows his way around it, would most likely be a loan but potentially we could sign him in the summer provided he doesnt turn out to be a class above

(CB)

- Rob Holding (29) Crystal Palace

Getting 0 look in at Palace and can play in a 4 got that elite experience King wants perhaps could be a good head around the squad

- Liam Lindsay (29) Preston

Could he finally be the key to beating Preston at Deepdale their club captain and a stalwart in their defence for a couple years, good defender and could be the ideal player to partner Thomas

- Jimmy Dunne (27) QPR

Quality in the air, mobile and can tackle all action defender that has been a key player for QPR this season and last

- Michal Helik (29) Huddersfield

By far and away one of the best defenders in league one, was a mainstay in Barnsley’s playoff season and a danger from set plays

(RB)

- Josh Acheampong (18) Chelsea

Would definitely be a loan, raw but definitely got ability think Chelsea would be fine with him being back up to Milan as he would definitely get minutes with the fixture pileup and potential downturn in form to MvE.

- Emil Krafth (30) Newcastle

Potentially wrongside of 30 but as a rotation option with Milan could be good played at the top level for a long time and can play wingback and CB

- Jeremy Ngakia (24) Watford

Showed a lot of early promise but seems to have fallen down Watfords pecking order and had a couple injuries, so could be available on his day a good RB at this level

- Ethan Laird (23) Birmgham

Very good defensive stats for a full back in league 1, was very good when he went to Bournemouth and Swansea, but seems to have regressed a bit, however I’d back Lampard to help him get back to the quality RB he used to be and become a ready made replacement for when Milan leaves

- Bryan Reynolds (23) Westerlo

Good progressive stats in the belgian top flight, American u23 international may need to improve defensively but could be perfect for when we’re on the front foot and Milan tires

- Shuto Nakano (24) Hiroshima

High quality RB in the japanese league definitely one of the best 5 goals and 5 assists and very very good underlying stats

Some very ambitious shopping lists here. Since when have we brought in more than one in the January window?

Last season it was effectively Torp in, McFazdean out and Ayari loan terminated.

In the 22/23 season there was an equal number of loans and frees in and out, Norton-Cuffy, Wilson-Esbrand, McNally loaned in, Maguire in on a free whereas Kane, Waghorn & Ried's loans were ended and Hilsner returned to Germany on a free.

In 21/22 Bidwell came in but 6 players, mostly loans returned to their clubs.

In previous years we were very busy in the loan market. I think that isn't so likely these days, the nature of the squad and the mission has changed from survive to aspire to be in the playoffs.

I think Bidwell will be offered a one year deal if he is doing well. We apparently are following elite clubs examples. Over 30, that is the norm unless the player is exceptional.
I will be very surprised if JDS doesn't see out his contract that has a bit to run yet.
Kitching is a strange one. Apart from a few lapses last season being sent off, he was looking as if he was improving all the time. Just now, no chance of getting our money back. Almost wonder if we have to stump up more money depending on number of games played.

I just can’t see Bidwell remaining at the club past this summer. Why would he only sign a 1 year deal at 31/32? We will want to buy a LB with more potential and ability suited to our style of play.

According to the ITKs this summer, we pursued McCallum, Burrows and Doyle as potential LB options. That tells me that the club is looking past Bidwell because you wouldn’t bank on us selling JDS for a fee.

If we can free up Bidwell’s wages and sell JDS in the summer, I’d be up for it.

I think it would depend if he can get 2 years elsewhere at a suitable salary he might go but if offered a one year extension here he might stay and take his chance on what happens the following year. He's has 3 years each at Brentford, QPR, Swansea and now here but now he's reaching the end of his time in the higher leagues and might have to settle for league one contract like Godden. I guess it largely depends on Lampard's requirements, he might consider it useful to retain a reliable older player.
