But we play with a target man. If you aren’t going to utilise JCH in that role then you’re sticking him at CM or something, or you’re changing the shape of the team to fit him in.
'Target man' in the mould of Biamou. This is what I couldn't understand about Robins' logic. He seemed hell-bent to converting him into Biamou 2.0 where he could disrupt play, hold the ball up, bring others into attack and essentially do the dirty work when this just wasn't his game at all. It never was.
But when he discarded him he regularly started Baka who despite Robins' efforts can do none of those things anyway. It was just a bizarre decision when we were already struggling for goals - I believe we finished the season with our GF on par with a couple of those in the relegation spots - and yet play-offs were still within reach.
Out of any of the strikers he brought in that season I believe JCH would've been the easiest to accommodate if Robins was willing to make minor tweaks to his attacking play by focusing more on getting crosses into the box and encouraging JCH to make runs in behind when opportunities arise. Really, if you look back at some of the goals during that season not all that dissimilar to how we played, especially with regards to other players creating chances from crosses/through balls. However, once Robins gets set in his ways about something that's it.
