My eldest son watched him for the last 3 seasons as he was a season ticket holder with Motherwell. So yes, I have a very good idea how good he is. I spoke to a couple of other Motherwell fans when he 1st came to us.
My lad was in Glasgow last week seeing his mates before he joined the army on monday. There is a lot of talk of Rangers wanting him, but he has not been seen there. He left Motherwell as he said he wanted to move back to England. He is a scouser. Mates with Rooney and a few other players, at least 1 of them an Everton player. The only thing I see in Rangers favour is Motherwell is a suburb of Glasgow, so no need to move house. Just because a club is interested in a player it don't mean he will join. He could go elsewhere to Rangers and us. By the sound of it he could easily play in the Championship.

20 odd games for them from a young player last season and deemed not good enough? They wanted to keep him, but lots of crap on wether the contracts are legal or not. We struck a deal where they do not fully lose out on him.
If they didn't want him why did newco offer him a new contract?

They are allowed to sign players til September then they have a 1 year embargo from what I understand.

He as on loan at Blackpool last season and only played 5 games for Rangers.
I am just going on what their fans have told me.

When McCoist became manager he was cast aside a little as they do not get on. Would have played more for Smith I suspect. Not quite lived up to potential yet but who says he won't do? Charlie Adam wasn't getting in the team at rangers before he left and he turned out ok. Sometimes it just doesn't work out at a club.

Look at Rangers' situation, of course players are expendable. Does it mean he couldn't have done a job in Scotland for them this year? No. Also, for all the shit the SPL gets, fans of a team like Rangers - winning the League again last season - may set their sights a little higher than those of Coventry - relegated from the Championship last season. If 99% of Rangers fans tell you he is shit, ask them what they know about David Bell's approach play because if they have no idea, it is almost completely irrelevant.
