Well that's a different point, I would argue Westwood, Kirkland and Fullop all improved here. Konstantopolopus went on to better things too. They were already gone keepers they were well coached before they came here

I used to think Oggy was good at crosses - he used to come and catch them all the time?Burge has the same weaknesses as Oggy kicking and crosses but now seems to have developed the ability to save nothing.
Yeah, that's what I remember too.I used to think Oggy was good at crosses - he used to come and catch them all the time?

Really , have you seen the highlights of the Sutton 89 and 87 Wembley games !!! :facepalm:I used to think Oggy was good at crosses - he used to come and catch them all the time?

Kirkland wasn't one of Oggys, westwood was a fantastic keeper but I felt improved miles AFTER he left the City! And Murphy was average at best. Only improved/looked better when we were relegated and he was playing league 1 football. Always looked out of his depth in the championship to me. Shown by the fact he left us for a championship club and in 3 seasons has made less than 20 league appearances and is now on loan back in league 1Yep, Kirkland, Westwood, Murphy all crap and didn't improve a bit whilst at the club.
When it comes to RCC and Burge I'd look at the raw material that the coach has to work with rather than necessarily criticise Oggy. Either way I'd settle for an average experienced keeper rather than a kid with potential all day long. Burge and RCC may yet turn out to be good keepers, but I'd rather they learnt their trade and made their mistakes elsewhere.
Still my favourite ever match. It was outstanding. Made my Christmas !
Most definitely. Glazier was far, far superior. Oggy was a great shot stopper, but his kicking was poor and he wasn't brilliant on crosses, quite often flapping a lot.Oggy was the same as Burge with crosses looks good on the ones he comes for without a challenge but the rest is the same when he didn't come out. But overall Oggy is by far so superior to Burge
Oggy good but well behind BIll Glazier
Not fit to wipe his boots as they say
Haven't had a decent keeper in 15 years? Joe Murphy, Kieran Westwood ... bloody hell, Andy Marshall even got a Player of the Season award.

I know it is just an opinion and I loved Bill Glazier but whatever his shortcomings as coach should not deflect from Oggy's excellence as a keeper for a long period of time. Most definitely. Glazier by far the best keeper I have ever seen.
this is why all covkids are now a load of cunts because nobody remembers the good times.......sisu out nopm ........fisher is trying to divide ue .............apparently worked...on the phone in. Clive read out an email. I'm guessing its the Jim Blyth, probably our best ever keeper since Bill Glazier. When someone of Blyth's knowledge and experience comes out with such a scathing attack on our goalkeeper (Burge) and coach its time for the club to have a look at what's going on .
The valid comparison for Burge and RCC is Reg Matthews. Made 111 appearances for City from 1950 to 1956 and is one of only five post-war players to be capped while playing for a Third Division club. I think he was still only 22 when he left to play for Chelsea. George Curtis made his debut as a 16 year old when Matthews was our No. 1 keeper. And we make excuses now because our team is so young.
I heard Reg Matthews say that Oggy was a shit keeper. And that was in a year when Oggy was in his prime (mid-1980s)! It seems that our former goalies do not like each other much.
Well all I can say is that I had an ST in the M&B Stand for a number of years and round by me Oggy's nickname was 'Flapper' and it's a tag he had for quite some time.Oggy was about the best in the league at taking crosses. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.
That was some game. Penalties, disallowed goal, bicycle kick. Bank holiday game? They were my Sky Blue years.Shall we take this off topic by recalling that penalty save in the last minute in the 5-4 win against Norwich 40 years ago?
I used to think Oggy was good at crosses - he used to come and catch them all the time?
Totally useless at crosses - corners were a nightmare to watch
Sound familiar?
He was a shot stopper
Didn't Oggy take it off him??? im sure he was the GK coach when Strachan was the manager!Yeah he has slagged him off before
As I have said before when Hedman came in instantly the goalkeepers situation improved... he could kick straight which was a revelation in itself
Yeah, give him a job in the community, or just wheel him out at Halloween. Think we need a clean sweep. New regime, fresh start. He was in goal in 87 but time for a change now give him a role in the community but we need a new goal keeping coach we are leaking goals we need someone who can inspire a keeper and coach him to command his area. Would like to see kirkland back in some capacity if he's interested in a career in coaching

I think his actual comment was that we hadn't had a decent keeper come through the Academy in 15 years, rather than not having a good keeper at the club in that time.15 years? Marshall, Westwood, Murphy?
I think RCC will play today.
