Miserable cunts. Funny is funny. I don't care the subject, cancer is very close to home but love jokes about anything. The key is knowing what's a joke and its intentions versus what's simply nasty to be a prick. If you don't know then you probably are a prick and I make no apology for that. Nothing is off limits with me and if it is with you don't watch. I'm certain some people just like being offended on behalf of others.
It's a very tricky one. I remember Ricky Gervais saying something about when he does a gig, if there are 1,000 people there watching him, some people in the audience will have recently lost a loved one. Should he then not make any jokes about death? This idea that “nothing is off limits” is just nonsense. Try putting some dead baby jokes in the Earlsdon thread and see how far people’s ideological commitment to comedy goes.
It’s easy to puff your chest out and say how nothing offends you when you’re not affected, just as it’s easy to clutch your pearls and claim offense at something you’ve never seen just because it’s an emotive subject for you. Either way - being absolutist about it is silly.

That’s a thread about a dead child, it’s a bit different context from “I’m watching a show by a stand up comedian known for edgy humour”.
“Funny is funny. I don’t care the subject…very close to home, but love jokes about anything”
Yes. I love blowjobs but I know not to get one at my nan’s funeral. Context matters.
Damn. Tried to delete in time, as I just saw your quip. Grrr.Timing is everything in Comedy
You do have consensus, but if I walk up to you and call you a f*****g dirty ****** who should get back where you belong (I appreciate in this particular instance, it's Earlsdon, but you can see where I'm going!), then that's my right to say that, no?
It's not censorship to stop free speach from encompassing things that marginalise, trivialise, and Other certain groups, along with hitting deep into their psyche and legacy of hurt.
Now as it happens, personally I don't think this encompasses that, but free speach is not, and can never be, an absolute.
The logic some people have defending it is fucking weird. So it wouldn't have been OK if it was about Jews but its OK about gypsies?
Not sure she would be able to put much effort into it at that point. Pointless anyway.
Yeah, it's all about context as always. People have seen one clip from that Jimmy Carr show it seems and now think he's inciting violence against gypsies. I think people just don't seem to really get comedy and context any more.
“Funny is funny. I don’t care the subject…very close to home, but love jokes about anything”
Lets be honest if you are a fan of Michael Mcyntyre you are unlikely to enjoy a night with Frankie Boyle.
In the 80’s I’d have little sympathy with someone suffering from PTSD having attending a Chubby Brown gig if their idea of edgy humour normally was Bernie Clifton
Rising Damp was the same - that was still shown when I was a teenager.Imagine Chubby Brown on Netflix
It's like Love Thy Neighbour, it was out before I was born but from what I have seen the whole thing is actually taking the piss out of the racist bloke. However if you show 1 clip of it rather than the whole thing you miss the context and think it's American Histoty X.

Yeah it was one of my favouritesAn excellent programme where Rigsby always ended up looking utterly absurd

I saw chubby brown live,I'm fairly sure he didn't tell any racist jokes
It's all about context though isn't it, as has already been said.If you feel that the way to get a laugh is to trivialise the murder of 500,000+ people then it’s probably because you’re an unfunny c**t to begin with.
I’d be interested to see if there was the same reaction if it was a joke related to a mass loss of British lives in a war or terrorist attack, I’d imagine they’d be outrage on this thread. It's all about context though isn't it, as has already been said.
Jimmy Carr must have cracked/made aside quips, around 150-200 jokes in this show. This is just 1 of 200.
Point is, he made jokes about everything. You would have more of a point if he felt he had to resort to this type of joke to get a laugh.
No-one seems offended by the other 199 wise cracks.
MP’s are employed to represent their constituents. If their constituents who are from this group feel this is offensive it is actually their duty to say this.Funny how MPs are so offended all the time.
Hypocritical cunts.
I'm sure they all polled their constituents.MP’s are employed to represent their constituents. If their constituents who are from this group feel this is offensive it is actually their duty to say this.
Not really. It's a joke. It's the context.I’d be interested to see if there was the same reaction if it was a joke related to a mass loss of British lives in a war or terrorist attack, I’d imagine they’d be outrage on this thread.
I'm sure the people upset by this would be giggling at the one about anti vaxxers as well. It was funny. Why wouldn't they? It's all about context though isn't it, as has already been said.

Maybe it is about context - but that doesn’t take away from the fact it’s in really poor taste. I can’t say I’m offended but it’s not a joke that is relevant to me, and being outraged and calling for him to cancelled ends up being counter productive, as he’ll get an even bigger platform to whine about his ‘unjust’ treatment. It's all about context though isn't it, as has already been said.

May well be right. It always hits harder when it is closer to home.I’d be interested to see if there was the same reaction if it was a joke related to a mass loss of British lives in a war or terrorist attack, I’d imagine they’d be outrage on this thread.
