Maybe it is about context - but that doesn’t take away from the fact it’s in really poor taste. I can’t say I’m offended but it’s not a joke that is relevant to me, and being outraged and calling for him to cancelled ends up being counter productive, as he’ll get an even bigger platform to whine about his ‘unjust’ treatment.
If this is the level he has to operate at to get laughs I’ll just give it a wide berth.

Hes a lot harder to defend. But really it would hinge on a claim what he’s doing isn’t comedy, and as bad as he is, I’m not sure you can credibly claim that. But even as a believe in absolute free speech, I’d find his broadcast or carrying by Netflix hard to defend.

People are free to write to their MP about whatever they want. The MPs job is to balance that as they’re literally responsible for creating the law. You saying “I’m offended” or even “this should be illegal” is fine, an MP saying “this should be illegal” when they’ve got the power to do that is different and relevant to their job.

Did you read what I wrote? I literally said the only way you could justify banning it is to claim it wasn’t an attempt at comedy but a genuine attempt to incite hatred and that doesn’t stack up.

Personally I don’t believe he should be banned. There’s still a feeling that networks should have decency standards of some sort which is different. But on balance I’d let it be a commercial decision, I still don’t think I’d want it banned.

I think there are very few free speech advocates who don't have a line in the sand which they think shouldn't be crossed.
It also depends who's doing the spouting. Farage had had little comeback for his antisemitic rants compared to some people so it's often agenda driven.

Ill be Devils Advocate here. I’m not convinced incitement to violence should be illegal. Im open to being shown otherwise but I don’t believe you can remove someone’s agency like that. If I’m violent it’s my decision not because someone told me to do it.

Words at the end of the day are just words, and a comparatively tiny handful of morally disgusting behaviour is worth it in comparison to the alternative.

That doesn’t mean people can’t campaign against stuff or companies refuse to carry it, but government shouldn’t ban speech IMO.

I think if it gets people talking about prejudice against a community that most people don’t spend a second thinking about, and subsequently changes how people think and act towards them, then it’ll have been worth it to those kicking up a fuss. Regardless of what official repercussions there are (which will almost certainly be none).
