On the second episode now. Seems to be clips never shown before. As someone who grew up after his time, i struggle to understand how people who grew up with him did not find him creepy as fuck and a dodgy bastard even back then.
Everyone I knew thought he was weird. Never liked him at all . On the other hand I thought Stuart Hall and Rolf Harris were really talented and I was shocked and saddened when it came out about them. But Savile was always strange.

Just finished it. A really tough watch.

What strangely got me the most is the recordings from when the story broke of people outraged that his name was being dragged through the mud. Some people are desperate to ignore victims.

The rest was obviously horrible but it's all stuff we've all heard before.

I always like Stuart Hall. Everyone did. He seemed a really lovable guy. Rolf Harris too.

Savile on the other hand, was always such an oddball and eccentric. He was so weird, but people would only see all the good he was doing and never questioned anything else.

Meanwhile, those in the industry seemed to have a very good idea what he was really like.
We the people, never got to hear about any of this.

Stuart Hall. One of the greatest commentators there was. More's the pity.

Were there rumours in the same way about Rolf Harris over the years? He was one like Bill Cosby where as far as I was aware they were universally loved and then what the fuck

It’s being balanced and basing responses on the evidence and facts rather than prejudice or authority bias. I was talking to my lad about the horror of what happened in the hospitals and how we train him and other teenagers to challenge authority appropriately when at school you can’t and if you do you are branded a troublemaker

Started watching it but haven't finished yet.
I know this wasn't the aim of the program but I couldn't help thinking when watching it that the British public really are, by and large, fucking idiots.
With no evidence

Poulton's barking mad.
But there have been two dossiers of evidence, one put together by an MP, which were unfortunately 'lost'.

Some of the shit he was saying.

"When nobody is looking I help the girls out too"

Just watching this. Id never seen the Andrew Neil interview before…uncomfortable. Fair play though, he knew the score. The amount of suggestive comments Saville makes about his own behaviour is unbelievable

Although he looks like a total wrong un especially with hindsight, you can see how he manipulated everyone around him. The brazenness only added to it

Wasn't DLT (Dave Lee Travis) accused of something or other many years ago? I seem to remember this was hushed up.

Think somebody on the documentary labels Saville as a “cross between Jesus and Father Christmas who made peoples dreams come true” Unfortunately we were all hoodwinked by him for years when writing in for him to “Fix it for us”.
My son and daughter asked how the hell did we not see what he was all about as it was obvious when watching the documentary. It may seem obvious but we are talking about events over a 40-50 year period or possibly longer.
When that timescale is compacted into two hours on Netflix I guess it’s easier to dissect.

This was the reality of the situation, especially before it was official.

Despite a lot of evidence being available online, like images of him visiting that children’s home, for a lot of people even speaking out against him was inexcusable.

Watched the first 15 mins. He reminds me of Boris so much. And in the same way Boris and Jimmy can do anything and those that love that scruffy individual maverick will allow them to do whatever they want without consequence.
I’m not suggesting Jimmy was as bad as Boris of course!!

Maybe I’ve written that the wrong way round

its not really. The CPS did have an opportunity to take action in the internet age and still decided not to.

It’s really only as he looked odd. Rolf Harris and Stuart Hall were pretty grim and no one especially with Harris would have had a clue

Not really, it was more the dodgy picture of him at the children’s home linked to sex abuse.

The Cps said there was insufficient evidence.

The head of the CPS at the time said the buck always stopped with him if anyone below him got things wrong

Not sure who that was tbh

Also why do you think Boris gets away with multiple affairs, lies and incompetence?

incompetence is a subjective view abd frankly Tony Blair was a serial liar who even won an election when immersed in the Kelly MWD scandal which was far worse than a cake and candle affair
