Just putting it out there...

Jones would have been more effective than Thomas if fit. Would have more goals and assists. Not knocking Thomas, he has played well, just think Jodi has a better footballing brain.

Hyam will be an international defender. Best signing we have made in years.

Discuss....

My thoughts, Jones would be slated by a selection of our fans this season as he wouldn’t be up to speed and not done it at this level so will have had peaks and troughs.

I like Hyam, of course he will be an international player. For Scotland

I'd say Jones is clearly the better finisher. Hyam may well play for Scotland. Never England.

Agreed about Hyam. Absolute class. Division 3's very own Alan Hansen.

Disagree. Jones is equally as greedy as Thomas and unproven at this level.

Hyam isn't anywhere near that good

Ok Fernando. I respect your opinion. Do you think Jones might have scored more?

I would argue; Hyam has potential to be way better than Keogh and Turner and still very young...

I would say he isn’t as good as those two, but better than a lot of the dross we have had over the years

Nothing to suggest jones would do better than thomas overall. Weird to say on day thomas scored a great goal

Hyam missed a huge chance today. Ill hold off on calling him an international simply cos i wonder how huge 3 pts coukd have been today

Hes been an amazing signing tho

Fair play gents. All decent points....

My Jones point comes from earlier this season really. Thomas played 80 mins, ran at the defence a lot, loads of pace and energy but never delivered the final ball or tested the keeper. Jones came on played 10 mins, put in two brilliant passes to create chances and tested the keeper twice. I remember thinking; he's done Thomas' stats in 10 mins!

Absolutely not having a go a Thomas who has been decent for us this year (if a little wasteful) and is a young lad, I just think Jones actually has more end product and I really hope he can get fit again...

Jones has been a significant loss this season for sure.

Makes the management of Robins all the more impressive - this season he has managed us through the loss of Jones, the let down performances of Ogogo and Andreu (who I'm sure were thought of as absolutely key players at the start of the season) and age finally catching up with Doyle. You can add Max to that list as well - he would have been a very important player for us. And finally the biggest signing of the season - Chaplin has not fitted in as yet. To be anywhere near the play offs is a huge achievement given those factors.

My view is that Jones and Thomas could have played together - right and left. That combination and pace would have been a nightmare for most defences in this division. Jones is a fantastic player and I think under-rated by us. In terms of Hyam/Willis - also under-rated and both good enough for the Championship.

Hyam is a class act, Was excellent again yesterday and yes did miss a good chance at the death but that didn’t spoil a top overall performance. I hope we can keep him but I think bigger fish might come sniffing around. Jones too we just have to wait and see how he comes back. Would have been an interesting partnership him and Thomas but the latters poor final ball and missing of chances has spoilt him. but he is still young, in his first full season and will improve, I’d like to keep him here another season even permanently but can’t see that happening.

Thomas reminds me of Ryan Kent. Could be electric but poor end product at that time. Now he’s one of the key players for Rangers scoring and assisting. Think Thomas needs another 1-2 seasons to be at the top of his game.

Never read the game like Hyam though? Relied on physicality, which is rarely enough to hit and maintain it at top level

Time will tell if Hyam could do it in a decent league. Turner basically never dropped below the Champs until the injury problems. Keogh’s not doing too bad for himself either

Let’s not big Hyam up too much. I mean, what footballer wants the Scottish National team to know they qualify for them? Poor lad, he’s had a cracking season but doesn’t deserve that ;)

I heard he woke up with a haggis’ head on his pillow and took it as a sign

Hyam is more in the Scott Dann mould than Turner/Keogh. Reads the game v well which largely makes up for his lack of pace and thus doesn’t have to make those last ditch, desperate challenges that Keogh always made - which attract the attention of the cameras and fans as it’s more obvious but he’s having to make those due to getting turned too easily or being caught out positionally.

Think he could easily play in the championship in the future.

Not seeing it with Jones. Think people may have some rose tinted glasses on thinking about his Hat trick 19 months ago. Was terribly one footed too.(can anybody remember how frustrating he was in our L1 debacle of a season...!?) Pace wise had nothing on Thomas and two ACLs later will likely be slower. Think that sadly he will drift around League 2 level.

I think Thomas has been great this season. I have really enjoyed watching him and having him in our team. It would be great to keep him for next season too but I doubt that that will happen. Yes, he should have scored more goals but he has and still does get in the positions where those chances occur, often through his own skill or pace. I would love to have seen a fully fit Jones on the other wing as that really would have caused teams problems. I do think he is more clinical than Thomas both in his final pass and in goalscoring positions. It will be a real shame if he cannot return to at least the level he was at last season.

Comparison are too far apart at this stage of development. Thomas has only a third of the senior appearances and half the senior match minutes to what JJ has so decision making I’d expect to be better of the two at this point for his career development but let’s not forget JJ was and is just as frustrating at times in his in his decision making and only really shown great ability at L2 level.

Dom Hyam is a gem of a signing but does lack that turn of pace to potentially take him to the highest level.

Yeah but Kent in playing in a piss poor league for a team that will probably finish second

Although Jones is our best player, McNulty came into form when Jones was injured. We are better without him, he is a raw talent but his decision making is poor. Thomas everyday of the week for me

I doubt very much that we’ll ever see jones play first team football again for CCFC. Two bad injuries that will be difficult to recover from. Hope I’m wrong.

When’s his contract up?

His contract is up until 20.06.2020.
I'd like to see him spend the first month or two of next season on loan maybe back at Dagenham just to test that sharpness, bring him upto match fitness. Once he's torn up that league (or another ligament), then draft him into the first team on his return. Think it's what he needs, match fitness, minutes, composure and confidence. If he doesn't get any of them fairly soon, we've lost a very useful asset
