Yeah but you'd play a game of football if you were told before ko that there was a 5% chance of getting an injury that needed an operation which is a more suitable analogy
I don't think many people would if there was a 5% of such an injury in one match. You would if there was a 5% chance of it happening at some stage.

It’s a one in 20 chance

So in other words/statistically speaking, you’d be lucky to make it through half a season without tearing it again.

And if he scored 2 hare tricks in his first 4 games and Man Utd contact his agent?

Do Man U need a magician for the kids end of season party?

Doesn't matter anyway - we'd pull a rabbit out of the hat and beat their offer.

People keep going on about pay as you play. Can anyone name any player on such a deal?

Andy impey was on one here by all accounts and was a nice little earner. Regular 2 min sub appearances got him a £2k appearance fee if rumours are to be believed

No. It’s 5% over a year, not per game, normal risk is 3%. Probably higher in elite sports. Robins said 5% was normal, which tallies up.

Edit: wait I’ve read that wrong. Too late. That’s 0.3% for people playing the sport each year. Maybe multiple by ten for the rest of his career or maybe elite sport is ten times more dangerous? Not sure. It’s too late at night for this shit.

Similarly clubs don't have obligations to players. Just because he's been injured for three years and unable to prove his worth doesn't mean the club are duty bound to offer him a new deal just so he can have that opportunity.

On a personal note I would like to see what he can do but I think his lengthy absence has lead to another case of a player getting better in the eyes of fans the longer he doesn't play. I would offer him a pay-as-you-play deal for the year with the promise of upgrading it to a proper contract if he makes a certain number of appearances.

I am not suggesting we do, but based on the fact we’ve supported him through rehab and surgeries with the best specialists available, would suggest MR believes he can offer something.

Plus, as per my post, it’s low risk, potentially high reward. He’s already on the books and in the budget, likely on a low wage compared to others, and is unlikely to find a better wage elsewhere due to his injuries, so we give him a season to prove his fitness and his ability. If it goes well he gets a better deal and we have a rejuvenated exciting attacking threat (and saleable asset if needed) and if not we let him go.

Plus Better Days said he’s getting extended so that’s that.

Are you suggesting the club, who have invested a decent amount in his recovery, along with the medical staff and Robins know more than a bunch of medical experts on a forum? :ROFLMAO:

Which was exactly the argument used when offering him a new deal last year. Then he did his ACL again, hasn't played a single game and we're having exactly the same reasoning given again.

if if goes again I bet there would be people saying exactly the same thing again next year too - offer him a new deal and see if he can come back. How many times do we carry on doing this?

They also said last year the chance of injuring the knee again was minimal when it was healed, hence one of the reasons we offered him a new deal.

Robins is right, he is still young enough and talented enough to take another gamble on him and offering him another contract.

He looked very good in pre season and I think he'd have been very useful in one of the two AM slots this season, certainly better than Shipley and Allen.

Might as well offer him a new deal for what will I'm sure be very low wages and/or highly incentivised.

How can he be better than a player whose played in the championship based on a couple of pre season games?

Not exactly hard to be better then Shipley, a blow up doll caught in the wind is more useful then that clown.

Well not really as Shipley has played successfully in league one but I was talking about Jamie Allen and his career at Burton and fact that he’d have been signed as a marquis signing in league 1 and certainly will earn far more than Jones

He really hasn't, he was our best player in the early part of that league 2 season. Remembering that he was only 19

You say that, but the team only started to flourish once he got injured. Ryan Kent who looked far better in the division above, failed in the Championship and now plays in a pub league.

Genuine question, if he were to break down again and is out for the season, do we offer him yet another contract?

He was but to be honest we actually didn’t really kick on with mcnulty until he got injured

Agreed. He was arguable the best player in the league 2 before his injury, which is why Championship Leeds were on the verge of signing him.

He didn't injure it again, it was the other knee. That's just exceptionally unlucky.

The other knee which he injured the year before.

Admittedly we've apparently gone for a better surgeon and method of repair (no idea if that's true) so hopefully it will be more robust than the previous one but the fact is he's done his knee three times in three years.

If we were looking to sign him from elsewhere given his pedigree and history people would be saying it's a very strange decision.
