Wouldn't say he's as good as Westy was but he is a great keeper and has saved us a lot at times but that's his job. I would say Westy just has the edge on Murphy both brilliant keepers though!

Really, I don't suppose it matters who is "best". At the end of the day, Murphy is here and Westwood is warming a bench. Murphy should get the plaudits really.

Westwood - top quality keeper, Prem standard. Murphy - good quality keeper - Championship standard. As we are two and one divisions below these we are lucky to have as good a keeper as Murphy in our side and should we get promoted it isn't a worry that we'd need a new keeper. I have never understood those who knocked Murphy, he has saved us on numerous occasions this season. Like Leons biggest crime is that he's not McG, Murphys is that he's not Westwood.

Agree, wasted talent. However, I think Westwood knew the score when he left and was well aware he'd probably spend the foreseeable future on the bench. Westwood is like many players; too good for our level but not good enough for the top level. I'm sure he'll end up somewhere back in the Championship one day.

What a great topic for conversation. My reply is probably going to be predictable.
Murphy is a great keeper........for league one. From the first time we were ever linked with him i said I wouldn't be keen because at the time we were a championship club. One that had the intention of competing in the championship. My fear was that we were planning to be a league one side if we signed him (as we have done in more recent years with some of our signings).
I was highly critical of him when he was a championship player with us, but I think this season he has been one of our outstanding performers and probably the best keeper ive seen in this league.
He does look an improved player, so who knows, given another shot in Championship with us, he may prove me wrong.
But from what ive seen of him in the championship, for us or Scunny (when they played us), i didnt rate him

Both Murphy and Westy have there qualities and they both top each other in certain area's for example as a keeper I think Murphy's distribution is better than Westwood's is, but I think Westwood is the better shot-stopper than Joe Murphy, but as Murphy is playing for us (and doing extremely well I might add, a contender for player of the season certainly) I think Murphy is better although we would have never got relegated last season with Westwood in our team..

Read before you TOOL!!! I have said clearly that I prefer Muprhy because he is here at CCFC!! Murphy probably could of pushed through a move to the Championship at the beginning of the season if he had wanted too because he is that good! Westwood is a great Goal Keeper but he made a mistake and should have extended by a 2 Year Deal instead of choosing to move to Sunderland because no matter how well everyone rates Kieron he isn't is as good as Mingolet..

Westwood was disrespected by Hoofroyd, that's why he chose to run his contract down. Westy wanted a extension to his contract, but when Hoofroyd was asked if he had spoken to Westy on the subject, His reply was "I haven't bumped into him on the training ground yet"....Talk about "Head up his own arse" or what!
To me, if told that our better players want contract extensions, you don't hang around and wait...you get it sorted asap!:facepalm:

It's not my fault that you think no one is allowed an opinion, rude or completely up your own arse but do you see me complaining?
Murphy is the best Goalkeeper in League 1 without a shadow of doubt, when we have needed him this season he has delivered, I personally still think that Murphy may of stopped two of the goals against JPT tie at home to Crewe, he also pulled off two magnificent saves Saturday (Which you probably didn't see because you weren't there) and has continued to do so throughout the season.
I prefer Murphy over Westwood that's my opinion they both have there faults and there plusses but I stick with Joe!

I do think Murphy is better currently, when was the last time Westwood played?? He is bench warming at Sunderland, with no form and no playing time, now this doesn't take away from the talent that Kieron obviously has, but Joe Murphy has been Player of the Season so far and I dare one person to challenge that statement..
Westwood in our team last season would have kept us up and I didn't say that because I am saying that Murphy didn't perform well enough or because Kieron is a better Goalkeeper, Westy had the knowledge of his defenders and was already settled, Murphy had only just joined our club and was put straight into the firing line, just because I said Westwood would have kept us up doesn't mean I am saying that Westwood is better..
