If that is the case then and he should stay at Cov, can you show me anywhere that we have actually offered him a contract? not people just saying we'd like you to stay but an actual contract, otherwise what would you expect him to do?

the most anyone linked to the club has said is "talking to agents". I think they have stopped short of saying they have offered any contracts

The information I got was to many clubs in for him, he wants to stay but will be sold. His sale must be what SP is waiting for to see how much of a budget he will have. If any supporters buy a season ticket pay with a credit card to ensure you can get your money back if the worse happens. Remember Joys words.

Who told you? Jack griffin in a PM?

Stop talking bollocks.

Woah, you're really chasing me today, aren't you?

If I were Murphy I would stay but that's me talking as a Coventry City fan. As I'm not Murphy then I imagine he'll leave, rot on the bench, play the odd League Cup game and coin it in. Fair enough.

As for a new contract. Who knows, I'm not privvy to contact negotiations. And if he does leave then we'll just get another keeper like we did after Westwood left. Not the end of the world, is it?

Similarly from August 2013 we'll be playing in Walsall and Leon Clarke will be sold before September.

Tim Fisher said they are building a new stadium as well as not selling Wilson

Pressley had his 'chats' ages ago. I'm surprised we don't know more. Personally if they let Murphy go then they have made a massive error of judgement. It's hardly going to convince fans that we are intending on trying to get out of this division.

Stop the fucking about and get him to sign up.

I think it's all the crap like "the information I got" and "word is", etc etc. It's just people pretending to be in the know.

I will let you know when he has gone, so every one will know who is talking bollocks.

Another reduction in player quality. We don't stand a chance of promotion.

Actually someone in the know told me that England are not going to the win the World Cup.

When we are knocked out I will remind you where you heard it first.

It was you who said he was having Medicals up and down the country wasn't it? That was lies wasn't it?

that isnt very far away from what happened though is it? playing in northampton and selling in Jan. especially as havn't we heard sisu say that the council threatened walsall and thats the reason we arn't there? I'm sure something like that came out at the recent court case.

All I am saying is how can he stay at Cov if we haven't even offered him a contract? Or does he intend to play for free?

The latest story in the CET seems to suggest Murphy hasn't been offered a new contract. There seems to be a certain amount of buggering about going on here. He might be willing to take less, but if they don't make a formal offer he's hardly likely to wait for a pay cut, is he.

And the like isn't for the buggering!

For me the writing is on the wall. All this absolute garbage about how he might stay or this and that.

If he stays I would be amazed. Chance of higher league football and more money for a club who don't play 35 miles away from home and owners have no ambition.

Is this really a discussion?

What it says is, we will not offer the money Huddersfield can & will offer.. in the SISU era they are de facto a bigger club.

There may be no point in offering a new contract though.

If they've said in a conversation to Murphy...

'we'd like you to stay and we'd like to offer you a new contract, but it will only be for less than your current wage'

Then chances are he's probably said it's OK don't bother. What's the point in formally writing up and offering a contract if he's not even remotely interested?

Hasn't he stated numerous times he would love to stay and would accept a pay cut.

I would offer them all a promotion bonus... Get to the playoffs and get x1.5 your annual salary - get promoted and it's doubled.

Too many people getting shitloads for mediocrity. (not referring to Murphy here though)

I think Murphy would take less money to play, other than more money bench warmer at his age,, but his agent will be calling all the clubs in L1 to see if they can better the offer by us to play in L1. He will know the money offered at HTFC and may use this to get an offer in between that and ours to keep in the international eye while playing every week. He is a decent experienced keeper that has had a good season by and large, we would miss him if he did move on, but lets see how all falls...

No argument from me there Jack - but I think it's telling that there's no mention of offering Murphy a contract.

I think if you're hoping to get someone to sign on for less money, the smart move is surely to make the offer before the contract runs out and they start talking to other clubs. My gut feel is that if they'd offered Murphy a reduced contract before the end of the season (or even immediately after it), he might well have signed. That was certainly what he seemed to be saying here:

http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...-news/coventry-citys-joe-murphy-wants-6872917

In his direct quote I think it's implied that he didn't like the thought of all of this going into the closed season...

"I had a word with the gaffer last November just to see whether I had a future here because last year a lot of the lads found out after the last game of the season.

I’m 32 now, not 18, and I needed to know if there is anything here for me, so we sat down and had a chat and he said yes and that we’d sit down before the end of the season and speak again..."

He would likely play at Huddersfield. Alex Smithies is rumoured to be off so Joe would be his replacement rather than backup.
