Without getting shot down, what do people think about Clarke coming back replace Christie, and perhaps move Christie to RM? Probably never happen, but thought id pose the question. I believe, it may have been mentioned on this forum before, Christie used to be a striker before reverting to playing as a defender (Dublin style but alot earlier in his career). We all know good he is at getting forward and his crossing is one of the best in our team, and Clarke is pretty astute (that the right word??) when it comes to our defensive game. We talk about it time and time again about our full backs not getting protection and with Christie being good defensively as he is attacking im sure these two would form a good partnership on our right hand side! Christie is still young. Hes obviously very versatile, changing from a striker to defender quite easily (isnt he naturally a CB and not a RB??) and hes proven himself at RB too (hes definately one of the outstanding performers ive seen this season). Is it too late to ask him to adjust to another position again?? Plus this would fit into a 442 formation too.

Just a thought

I think Clarke is a cracking player always rated him, and he did mark Adam Johnson out of the game a few years ago!

We need him bk as he could be a key player for us!

I don't think Clarke is a bad option at all at right back. Keogh has probably been our best player this season at centre back and Christie has probably been our best youngster. He has seemed to tire a little of late (mentally, physically, couple of errors), so competition will be good. I think Clarke has all the attributes of a decent right back. Played that little bit longer than Christie, good engine, doesn't waste a huge amount of passes, not averse to pushing forward if explicitly told. If he recovers to a decent performance level in training and injects some enthusiasm, wouldn't be a bad introduction. Let Christie win the place back or retain it despite the challenge... the more hands on deck we have, the better. I'd probably have rather seen the likes of Clarke get a new contract than Bell, McSheffrey or Baker, in all honesty.

This might not go down to well but I think Clarke is a much better defender than Christie, so as SW88 says moving Christie to right midfield could work, although playing players out of position isnt really something we should be looking to do imo.

And I'm told that Christie was a centre back at school and a midfielder in the academy. My mate converted him to right back for the first time at Woodlands. To be hones, I would be more inclined to give him a rest for a game or two if Clarke was back and champing at the bit (rather than converting him to midfield). We are in a poor position and, despite the fact he has generally played well, playing him out of position (as it is now, not least a completely untried position at this level) when we are struggling and his star is waning ever so slightly isn't going to do him or us many favours.

I do admit he has looked tired of late. I do however think in dropping him altogether, we'd miss his crossing! With only him and Hussey who have a decent cross on them, we're likely to struggle getting balls into the box more than we already do (although, I must say good ball from Baker (I think it was) for Gardner on Saturday, although it must have been a fluke as saying 'great cross (or anything 'great') about Baker is pretty rare :) )

Yeah if he's fit enough, I'd bring Clarke in for Christie and let Christie have a rest. I'm not a fan of trying to convert Christie into a right midfielder he is much better running from deep where he can get a bit of momentum going.

Clarke did sign a new deal in the summer, not convinced he's actually better than Cyrus but the boy does need a rest ,personally iwould try anything to change the rut we're in ,suggested cyrus RM ,with Keogh behind,And Hussey LM ,with cranie behind previously in a 4-5-1 system cos although we don't score many now ,we have started to ship 2-3 in every game now.

Only problem with that is you lose both Keough and Crainie if you play this way. And im not a fan of Crainie at LB. Left backs need a left foot IMO and that he doesnt have. Not a critisism as he did well short term for us, although id have much prefered an untried Chris Hussey at Left back all those times Crainie played there. Atleast that would have given him more game time, and maybe would have made him a better player than he is today. I rate him, but he still has a lot to learn.

Christie definitely needs a rest, poor lad looks knackered and it's costing us at times.

Oh and he's nowhere near technically good enough to play right midfield.

That is a fekin stupid idea... Well actually on 2nd thoughts its not. Christie strikes me as a player that likes to get forward and could probably express himself more if given the chance. I for one would give it a try but obviously depends on the formation. Not a bad idea tough!

Get Clarke in the side, much better at defending and offers about the same attacking. Christie who early season was playing very well has become a weak link in our back 4 and his crossing has been getting progressively worse over the last 6 games or so. I still would like to see Wood in the side either ahead of Cranie or with Keogh moving to RB, Wood played very well in 2-3 games he played for.

Is Clarke fit, or even close to being fit?

TBH I think they are very similar players, Clarke looks vulnerable defensively and better going forward; both are better long-term candidates for RM than RB.
