I think we've improved slightly, especially if Willis signs. Conor McLaughlin got in the team of the year last time he was at this level so he should be an improvement at full-back where we were forced to play a central midfielder for large parts of 2018/19.

I'm glad Cattermole is gone, you can't justify paying someone £30-40k per week at this level. The signing of McLaughlin should free up O'Nien to play in his natural position of central midfield and we've got some good young players coming through who can play there.

Plus there are still a few weeks for us to make some more additions. I'm quite relaxed tbf.

Regarding your squad I couldn't possibly comment as I'm not clued up about who you have signed / sold / released.
Well you could comment, seeing as you’re a member of our forum!

At last something reasonable I can respond to.

Willis is definitely an improvement on what we currently have, as you would have seen in the 5-4 game our central defenders are woefully inadequate even at this level. I was concerned last summer when we signed Baldwin and the Peterborough fans weren't that arsed. As it happens he started okay then went downhill rather rapidly, I'd like to think he will never play for us again but I can't see who'd take him off us. Thankfully the new owners seem to have put a stop to us handing out long term contracts so he should be out the door in a year or so.

Regarding Burge I'd like to think he will be backup to McLaughlin who is one of the more capable goalkeepers in this division, if it wasn't for him we'd wouldn't even have finished in the play offs such were the depths Baldwin and Flanagan plunged to last season.

Yes if burge your number 2 keeper then that’s good business. If he can be infused with confidence and get coached more on when to come for crosses burge would be a very good L1 keeper. Like all at this level he has more than the odd error in him...and some are v embarrassing.
And if your central defenders as bad as you say then Willis will bring an improvement. He has lots of experience at this level. We appear to have replaced well but I still suspect there will be times this season when we miss him.

Any sign of you getting Enobakhare? He was class from what I seen last season.

Rumours that we're still in for him. Club publicly stating we're interested. There's definitely a chance. Would be a fantastic signing whether permanent or loan.

He has a recurring and I believe chronic knee injury. Hence why if we went through busy periods of matches he had to miss one. He was managed well like I lot of players have been over the years. Doesn't mean he is injury prone. Injury prone suggests he gets an injury every week, and doesn't make it onto the pitch, when we all know he does.

Yeah he has tendonitis, which flares up every now and again hence having to miss a few random games

I don't disagree, i just think hes no longer our player so i'm not really fussed where he goes.

I don’t mind. Just feel he should’ve had a cast iron offer to refuse to sign with us. Annoys me because he went just past the tribunal fee cut off them ran his contract down.

Frankly I’m not a fan of the whole Bosman/tribunal thing anyway so am never happy when we lose one of our own for nothing.

Add 'a sense of humour' to the list of things people from Sunderland are lacking.

Above or below basic hygiene and incest laws? ;)

I find Sunderland strange. Seem to have decent players but no manager seems to ever be able to get the best out of them? I'm a fan of jack Ross, but he seemed to split opinion to your fans.

I do think if you don't go up this season you could follow a similar trajectory to ourselves in being stuck at this level longer than wanted. But looking at your squad I would expect a top 6 finish again. With a couple of decent signings can see you pushing top 2.

Papers saying we’ve got a £600k bid that’s not been rejected but Wolves want to look at him in preseason. So fingers crossed.

You’ve got a decent defender in Willis and a good professional. He’ll do you well. Burge however...

What's the story in regards to your finances and the takeover? Seen a few mentions of these on your forum but never read through the topics
The takeover looked pretty close but appears to have had a hold-up and now it's off. It shouldn't affect us this season as financially we don't need it until/if we get back up into the Championship. We're not skint, but unfortunately, the League One FFP rules have come into effect now for us (relegated teams get a years grace), and with the club paying 46k a week to Oviedo, 40k a week to Cattermole (who's obviously gone now), it's turned into a balancing act to keep within the allowed income/outcome threshold. Just one of those difficult things to deal with for being shit for the last few years, I guess.

Looks like Willis is being announced tomorrow - glad we might actually have a capable defender in the side next season.

No idea. Just think it’s funny that managers think he’s worthy of a contract at a club like Sunderland. And you lot think he’s no better than non league

Ryan Alsop was a premier league goalkeeper - it’s making you sound silly

As far as I know there are no plans for more investment at this stage.

There are some right dribblers on that forum who don’t want to give the current owners a chance even though they’ve basically turned a complete financial basket case of a club around in the space of a year.

They’ve put the club on really sound financial footing, which is what was needed after years of excess under Ellis Short.

For some reason there are people on that forum who expect us to be chucking money about like there’s no tomorrow whilst we are in League 1, they don’t seem to want to acknowledge that is what got us into such a mess in the first place.

Sounds very much like our Facebook forum. I’m intrigued as to where our money is coming from this season though, we’ve already bought 3 or 4 players for fees and still have a £600k bid on the table for another and rumours around another permanent signing.

46k to a player in League one? That's insane.

Would have thought there would be clauses for relegation.

I think that was after the clauses had come into affect! He was on more in the prem for them... But they didn't have clauses for relegation to league one...

The thing is that is probably what he was getting paid after the relegation clause had come into effect.

The previous regime were absolutely clueless.

Excuse my ignorance but why are you going through another takeover process? I thought the new lot had come in only a year ago and have done an ok job at stopping the rot.

I'm interested to know how so many of our supporters know the salary Willis will be on when playing for a club he hasn't even signed with yet that are in the same division as us.

Are you suggesting that he won't get a higher wage?

Wherever he ends up, Sunderland or elsewhere, he'll be on more than his last contract with us.

Am I right in thinking that we’d put quite a substantial offer on the table for Willis?

They must be paying well over the odds in wages considering we’re hardly broke this season.
